Our Counselling Services are passionate, professional, and productive. We work together delivering a range of services that support families, children and individuals and contribute to building stronger, more resilient communities, including the Family & Relationships program which provides counselling and support to individuals, children, families, and couples to increase wellbeing and enrich relationships as well as family law counselling.

About the role
We are looking for a Counsellor -Generalist to join our Brisbane North team working across Strathpine, Clontarf, Stafford and surrounding suburbs. This is a Permanent Part-Time position working 68.4 hours per fortnight, availability to work an evening shift (12:30pm - 8:30pm) weekly is required.

As a Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting couples, families, and individuals-especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. Your expertise will help clients navigate relationship challenges, separation, and divorce, fostering resilience in the community. You will provide essential counselling services, conduct assessments, and develop personalized case plans that empower clients to gain insight into their relationships and parenting. This position also involves outreach opportunities, collaborative team participation, and contributing to service improvement initiatives. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outcomes-based and client risk assessments while maintaining accurate records.
  • Develop counselling goals and case plans to enhance self-awareness and address relationship and parenting issues.
  • Ensure timely achievement of service targets and actively participate in team meetings and professional development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on service planning and contribute to the continuous improvement of policies and procedures.

Qualifications, Credentials and Other Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or similar (this is an essential requirement of the role).
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or similar (Beneficial).
  • Eligible for professional membership with APS, AASW, ACA or other relevant professional body.
  • Current National Police Check
  • Current Blue Card
  • Current Queensland Driver Licence and own reliable vehicle.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the service region.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours.

About You:

  • Well-developed knowledge and skills in counselling, including an understanding of relevant systems, principles, key legislation, and mainstream practices.
  • Experience in conducting client risk and outcome-based assessments.
  • Proven ability to provide solution-focused brief therapy interventions.
  • Ability to work within a child-focused and whole-of-family framework.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to consult, negotiate, and liaise effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, sharing knowledge and fostering a positive, client-focused culture.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
