Overview

Ready to build your career? We want to hear from you. As a Cost Controller working in the Major Projects team at Pomerleau Construction, you will play a key role in contributing significantly to the management control of our projects, supporting our work on large-scale construction projects. The Cost Controller would be responsible for monitoring and analyzing the budget for a defined scope within a large construction project. They ensure the quality and reliability of management data, actively contribute to the preparation of financial reports, and ensure compliance with the cost control processes established by Management.

Responsibilities
  • Budget Management Support
    • Contribute to the preparation of the initial budget and periodic updates (forecast at completion).
    • Monitor daily commitments, incurred costs, progress, and remaining work.
    • Update management databases in connection with operational tracking files.
  • Reporting & Dashboards
    • Produce periodic budget monitoring reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) as defined by Management.
    • Update operational dashboards (concrete, labour, equipment tracking, etc.).
    • Participate in analyzing variances between budget and actuals and propose adjustments in close collaboration with operational teams.
  • Cost Recognition & Monthly Closings
    • Prepare accrued expenses (cut off items) at each period end.
    • Verify the consistency of spending rights, committed costs, and forecasts.
    • Collaborate with procurement and accounting departments to ensure the reliability of analytical accounting data.
  • Contractual Tracking & Compliance
    • Update budget monitoring for subcontracting contracts when applicable.
    • Participate in gathering and verifying strategic data and assessing related risks and opportunities.
  • Continuous Improvement Support
    • Contribute to the implementation of internal procedures and suggest improvement opportunities.
    • Participate in enhancing management tools (reports, ERP interfaces, Excel automation, etc.).
    • Provide technical support during internal/external audits and financial reviews.
Qualifications & Expectations
  • Strong command of cost control fundamentals and budget monitoring.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, advanced formulas, automation).
  • Knowledge of ERP environments (SAP is an asset).
  • Ability to read and interpret Power BI reports (developed by the support team).
  • Knowledge of complex project environments such as consortiums.
  • Understanding of project management concepts (EVM).
  • Analytical thinking and critical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
