Job summary

New Gold Inc. at the New Afton Mine in Kamloops, BC seeks a Cost Controller to support capital and sustaining projects.

You will work with project engineers, operations, and leadership to ensure accurate cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting, driving data‑driven decisions across multiple programs. Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor OPEX and CAPEX budgets, commitments, forecasts, and actuals for the department.
• Track and validate contractor invoices, purchase orders, monthly accruals, and change orders.
• Support monthly cost reviews with technical teams and leadership.
• Prepare variance analyses and identify cost trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Ensure alignment with Coeur financial procedures, capital governance, and reporting cycles.
• Develop and maintain cost models, cashflow forecasts, and project financial dashboards.
• Provide timely reporting to Engineering, Operations, and Finance teams.

Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Cost Controllers to join the operational departments the New Afton Mine. This role is essential in supporting project engineers, operations, and leadership by ensuring accurate cost tracking, forecasting, financial reporting, and budget stewardship for capital and sustaining projects across the Processing portfolio.

The Cost Controller will play a key role in improving financial visibility, strengthening cost governance, and supporting data‑driven decision‑making for multi‑disciplinary projects including mill refinement, tailings deposition, surface infrastructure, and geotechnical programs.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Management

• Maintain and monitor OPEX and CAPEX budgets, commitments, forecasts, and actuals for the department.
• Track and validate contractor invoices, purchase orders, monthly accruals, and change orders.
• Support monthly cost reviews with technical teams and leadership.
• Prepare variance analyses and identify cost trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Ensure alignment with Coeur financial procedures, capital governance, and reporting cycles.
• Develop and maintain cost models, cashflow forecasts, and project financial dashboards.
• Provide timely reporting to Engineering, Operations, and Finance teams.

Contract & Procurement Support

• Work with technical teams to ensure contract scopes, rates, and deliverables align with budget assumptions.
• Support procurement planning, bid evaluations, purchase requisitions, and contract change management.
• Monitor contractor performance against cost and schedule expectations.
• Support consumable monitoring and planning

Data & Systems

• Maintain accurate cost data in SAP and other financial systems.
• Support continuous improvement of cost‑tracking tools, templates, and workflows.
• Ensure data quality, documentation, and audit readiness.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Liaise between project engineers, Finance, Supply Chain, and consultants/contractors.
• Provide cost insights to support operational and engineering decision‑making.
• Communicate financial information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business, or related field.
• 1+ years of experience in cost control, project accounting, or financial analysis (mining or heavy industry preferred)(Co-op experience may be considered).
• Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and cost‑tracking principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and teamwork.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• MBA, Finance minor other applicable business management/finance focused education.
• Experience with SAP S4Hana or other ERP systems.
• Experience supporting engineering or construction projects.
• Knowledge of milling, tailings, geotechnical, or surface infrastructure project workflows.
• Familiarity with BC mining operations or the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code.
• Previous experience at New Afton Mine.

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $70,000 to $90,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
