Job summary

SYSTRA Canada, part of the global transport engineering group, seeks a Cost Analyst to support resource costing, financial bids, and profitability analyses. You will ensure accurate financial models, assist with audits, and contribute to joint venture accounting and process improvements in a dynamic environment.

The role requires 3–5 years of cost accounting experience, CPA designation, and fluency in French and English.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field and CPA designation.
• 3–5 years of cost accounting experience; project accounting is a plus.
• Experience with IFRS and private company accounting standards.
• Advanced Excel skills and knowledge of tax laws.
• Bilingual in French and English; strong written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Establish and analyze resource cost rates, including variance analysis and corrective actions.
• Support bids by preparing selling prices per resource, profitability and sensitivity analyses, and notes for bid committee review.
• Maintain and improve financial tools and documentation, including cost calculation models and CAPRI budgeting tool, with user support and training.
• Ensure tax compliance by responding to external audits on hourly rates and supporting tax obligations for affiliated entities.
• Manage joint venture financial activities including validation of statements, consolidation entries, and profitability follow-up.

Job description

SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway.

Context

We are looking for a Cost Analyst to support resource costing, financial bids, and profitability analysis while ensuring the accuracy of financial models and compliance requirements. The role also contributes to joint venture accounting, external audits, and continuous process improvement in a dynamic business environment.

Missions/Main Duties

• Establish and analyze resource cost rates, including variance analysis between standard and actual costs, and recommend corrective actions.
• Support financial and commercial bids by preparing selling prices per resource, profitability and sensitivity analyses, and financial notes for bid committee review.
• Maintain and improve financial tools, including cost calculation models and the CAPRI budgeting tool, as well as related documentation, user support, and training.
• Ensure financial and tax compliance by responding to external audits on hourly rates and supporting tax obligations for affiliated entities.
• Manage joint venture financial activities, including validation of financial statements, consolidation entries, profit-sharing follow-up, and participation in process improvement initiatives.

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, and a CPA designation.

Years of experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in cost accounting; project accounting is considered an asset.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of IFRS and accounting standards for private companies.
• Knowledge of current tax laws applicable to employers, individuals, and corporations. Advanced Excel skills.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, in French and English*
• Bilingualism is required because the role involves working with a diverse client base, including both French- and English-speaking companies. Strong communication in both languages is essential to build solid client relationships, understand their specific needs, and communicate effectively in their preferred language.
