Job summary

Drake International seeks a Manufacturing Cost Accounting Manager to partner with Operations, Production and Supply Chain, driving costing accuracy and financial performance. You will lead inventory valuation, standard costing and cost of goods sold, while helping shape strategic decisions and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive manufacturing accounting experience.
  • Strong background in cost accounting, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and manufacturing finance.
  • Experience in a CPG environment preferred.
  • Understanding of standard costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing variances, and COGS.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and month-end close.
  • Advanced ERP experience in a manufacturing environment (JD Edwards preferred).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial modelling skills.
  • CPA designation (or actively pursuing) is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and business partnering skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with finance and operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to inventory, manufacturing costs, and cost of goods sold.
  • Preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting schedules.
  • Monitoring and reconciling inventory, WIP, and manufacturing transactions.
  • Maintaining standard costs, BOMs, routings, and costing data within the ERP system.
  • Analyzing manufacturing variances, including material, labour, overhead, scrap, waste, and yield.
  • Conducting inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, and physical inventory support.
  • Partnering with Production, Operations, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Supply Chain teams to improve costing accuracy and operational performance.
  • Developing profitability analyses, financial models, and scenario planning to support pricing, sourcing, and capital investment decisions.
  • Supporting annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities.
  • Monitoring financial performance against budget while providing meaningful variance analysis.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial controls, reporting processes, ERP effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
  • Supporting internal and external audits while maintaining strong inventory and financial controls.

The Role: Cost Accounting Manager

What You'll Bring
