Title: Cost Accountant

What Would You Do?

The Cost Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Finance functions within PFG. The main focus area will be on working with all plant inventories and labour transactions to minimize material and labour variances through analysis and process improvements.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position would include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with Accounts Payable department to properly record cost information.
  • Work on inter-company activities as they relate to COGS activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments on the analysis of profitability of products.
  • Analyze problems and provide advice on the corrective action.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of projects, policies and/or procedures, aimed at improving productivity for the department.
  • Liaise with other business units within the organization.
  • Month end accounting for inventory valuation and cost of good sold activities (COGS).
  • Reconciling finished goods, WIP and Raw material inventories monthly.
  • Analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs for material and labour.
  • Assisting in Month end close of the General Ledger.
  • Monitoring physical inventories on the plant floor and cycle count programs.
  • Lead working groups focused on resolving material and labour variances.

What Do You Bring?

  • Minimum of two years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards.
  • Accounting designation or working towards one.
  • Has a strong cost systems background.
  • Experience working in a multi company/divisional environment is an asset.
  • Experience with MAPICS or another main frame system is an asset.
  • Ability to accurately prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ability to analyze processes, develop efficiencies and initiate constructive solutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; able to converse comfortably with business partners.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with keen attention to detail and commitments to excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work so all target dates are achieved.
  • Advanced experience with spreadsheet applications, word documents and email (office 365), Power Point, Microsoft Access.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to change in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrate a new approach to solving an issue(s) and applying new process.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a computer.
  • Must have a driver's license and access to a vehicle.

This position requires being present in the office Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM—4:30 PM, 40 hours per week. We have two locations in Winnipeg within two blocks of each other, and the ability to work at both locations will be required.
