As Western Canada's largest independent rendering company, we are an integral part of a sustainable local food chain. Rendering is a process that creates high value products from materials that would be otherwise sent to landfill or compost. Across our 7 plant locations, we deliver goods by truck, rail and vessel, ship products globally and offer storage, refining and blending services for raw materials. We export 65% of Canada's canola oil to Asia Pacific markets annually and recycle about 1 billion pounds of raw material every year in Western Canada.

Based at our Vancouver Head Office location, we are searching for a Corporate Manager of Human Resources. This role is responsible for supporting operations through oversight of the Human Resources and Health & Safety functions. Delivering human resource management programs that provide meaningful business outcomes and enhance employee engagement across West Coast Reduction Ltd. ("WCRL"), West Coast Reduction USA, and Redux Nutrition LTD. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with both the Chief Operating Officer and the President & CEO, the Corporate Manager of Human Resources will develop and manage best practices in employee relations, performance management, recruitment, training and development, policy updates, employee communication, leadership development, succession planning, benefits administration and the creation of other effective tools needed by the company.

Annual base salary range : $125K - $135K

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resources

  • Oversee the Human Resources team to provide support to operational divisions in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan & Washington State (USA) encompassing 500+ employees.
  • Responsible for providing strategic human resources advice as well as practical and tactical solutions to HR issues.
  • Develop, recommend, communicate and evaluate HR policies, plans and initiatives to ensure they meet operational and employee needs.
  • Provide support to managers and / or employees on the interpretation of the HR policies and procedures.
  • Oversee performance management program, including annual reviews, improvement notices and action plans, as well as termination procedures.
  • Develop and recommend creative alternatives to resolve employee performance issues.
  • Deliver programs and communications to implement desired change initiatives that link to the culture and business strategy.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships at all levels of the company to understand and assess the cultural health and alignment with WCRL values.
  • Identify training needs, design development programs, and facilitate opportunities for employee enhancement.
  • Establish HR strategies in alignment with corporate goals and strategic plan.
  • Support the planning and implementation of new business units.
  • Oversee the HR functions within our HR Information System (Dayforce).
  • Lead the development and execution of effective recruitment and staffing strategies to attract top-tier talent.
  • Lead, assist and / or advise the management team with regards to employee investigations, resolving concerns and issues as appropriate, including where necessary the issuance of correction action plans or termination.
  • Provide research driven data on competitive compensation and total rewards programs.
  • Partner with various Plant Operations and Head Office leaders to ensure proactive positive employee relation practices are occurring, ensuring all corporate initiatives are rolled out and successfully implemented.
  • Ensure company adheres to Provincial / State Employment Standards, WCB regulations, Human Rights and any other applicable federal and provincial employment legislation.
  • Serve as the primary contact between West Coast Reduction & the union where applicable.
  • Key member in bargaining of Collective Agreements and resolution of grievances.

Health & Safety

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of comprehensive health and safety programs that align with organizational goals.
  • Establish strategic goals, targets, and objectives for WCRL's Health & Safety Program.
  • Allocate appropriate resources to WCRL's Health & Safety Program.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Health & Safety Manager to ensure that health and safety initiatives are integrated with broader HR strategies and organizational objectives.
  • Accountability for the governance and oversight of WCRL's Health & Safety Program.
  • Foster a culture of safety awareness through regular communication, workshops, and educational initiatives.
  • Review and approve all Health & Safety related policies.
  • Provide the Executive Team with performance information on Health & Safety programs across all divisions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide the Executive Team quarterly updates on HR and Health & Safety Programs.
  • People development and active management of direct reports.
  • Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all company policies.
  • Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or a related field required.
  • CPHR designation is a requirement.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a HR management role.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in all areas of HR, preferably within a production or manufacturing organization.
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated working knowledge of relevant provincial and state employment legislation.
  • Demonstrated influencing, problem solving and conflict resolution skills required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional interpersonal, listening and interpretative skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work and exercise initiative to ensure high-quality service in a high-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and results oriented.
  • Reliable, and able to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Flexible with a "can-do" and "no task is too big or too small" attitude.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused on high pressure situations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Products, as well as using an HRIS system.
  • Available to travel across Western Canada and Washington State based on business needs.
  • In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations / practices is an asset.
  • Experience working within a business operating in the western provinces would be an asset.
  • Experience working within a business operating in Washington State would be an asset.
