Job summary

RJS LAW Professional Corporation, a Markham-based corporate and commercial law firm, seeks a Corporate Lawyer with 3-5 years of post-call experience. You will handle real files from the start, including commercial agreements, M&A, governance, and regulatory matters, while working directly with clients and decision-makers.

Licensed to practise in Ontario, you will manage client files independently, bring strong drafting and negotiation skills, and contribute to strategic business-focused guidance

Responsibilities

The Role

• Advise clients on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters

• Act as outsourced in-house counsel for select clients, which includes attending meetings, understanding their business objectives and giving practical, business-focused guidance
• Manage your own files from intake to completion
• Collaborate with colleagues and client stakeholders, and stay current on legislative and industry developments

What You Bring

• A law degree (J.D./LL.B.) from a Canadian law school
• Licensed to practise law in Ontario and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
• 3-5 years of post-call experience in corporate/commercial law, gained in private practice
• Hands-on experience running client files, with the ability to manage matters independently with little to no supervision
• Strong drafting, negotiation and research skills
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to business clients
• Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to juggle multiple matters and deadlines
• A client-focused, business-minded approach (in-house or outsourced in-house experience is an asset)
• Commercial Real Estate and Commercial Financing experience welcomed.
