Job summary

Mitchell Plastics Corporate Engineering – Designer in Kitchener, ON, Canada, on-site. The role supports development programs, updates design records, and participates in design reviews.

International travel to facilities in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico is required to meet project needs. The Designer will work under the Design Manager, maintain APQP files, manage open issues, and ensure design standards are updated.

Qualifications

• 2 - 10 years of experience in the Automotive Parts Industry.
• Has a Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Familiar with customer and AIAG requirements.
• Understands the Injection Moulding process and Tooling.
• Understands design tools, such as DFA, DFMEA, etc.
• Has excellent computer skills including all Microsoft Office Applications.
• Strong design literacy in NX (UG) or Catia.
• Understands key Quality & Environmental Management Systems procedures.
• Has superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
• Takes initiative and is able to identify areas for opportunity.
• Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Document design records/minutes for all program design meetings.
• Participate in regular Design Meetings as chaired by the Design Manager.
• Data must be available to review in Design Reviews.
• Update and maintain files on APQP Folder on intranet.
• Responsible to update specific program Open Issues on a regular basis and have ready for review in weekly Layered Process Audits.
• Maintain and Update Assembly and Component Prints.
• Proper tracking of incoming and outgoing math data.
• Consider customer SOR, warranty info, customer timing, part validation requirements during design process.
• Participate and present in regularly scheduled Design Reviews as organized by Program Manager.
• Conduct regular Benchmarking activity as specified by the Director of Engineering.
• Update and communicate updates to Design Standards.

Designer Mitchell Plastics Technical Centre Our Corporate Office is looking to add a Designer, reporting into the Design Manager. The Designer is a key player in the design of our development programs, with responsibility to communicate all program design issues. This position will be based out of our Technical Centre in Kitchener and requires International travel to all of our facilities within Canada, the United States and Mexico to support business needs.
