Job summary

Mitchell Plastics Technical Centre in Kitchener is seeking a Designer to join the design team. This role reports to the Design Manager and contributes to development programs by documenting design issues and coordinating across design reviews.

Travel to facilities in Canada, the United States and Mexico will be required to support business needs. The Designer will maintain design records, participate in design reviews, and ensure alignment with AIAG requirements and DFMEA/ DFA processes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 2–10 years of experience in the automotive parts industry.
• Familiar with AIAG requirements.
• Knowledge of Injection Moulding process and tooling.
• Experience with DFA and DFMEA.
• Strong software skills including MS Office.
• Proficient in NX or Catia.

Responsibilities

• Document design records/minutes for all program design meetings.
• Participate in regular Design Meetings as chaired by the Design Manager.
• Attend design review meetings and prepare data for reviews.
• Complete Design Checklist at major design reviews.
• Update and maintain files on APQP Folder on intranet.
• Update program Open Issues for weekly Layered Process Audits.
• Maintain and update Assembly and Component Prints.
• Update communication of Design Standards and findings.
• Present in Design Reviews as organized by Program Manager.
• Conduct regular Benchmarking as directed by the Director of Engineering.

Mitchell Plastics Technical Centre

Our Corporate Office is looking to add a Designer, reporting into the Design Manager. The Designer is a key player in the design of our development programs, with responsibility to communicate all program design issues. This position will be based out of our Technical Centre in Kitchener and requires International travel to all of our facilities within Canada, the United States and Mexico to support business needs.

The Role

• Document design records/ minutes for all program design meetings.
• Participate in regular Design Meetings as chaired by the Design Manager. Data must be available to review in Design Reviews.
• Must participate in specific design review meetings as set up by Program Manager, Director of Engineering or Design Manager.
• Complete Design Checklist at each major design review.
• Update and maintain files on APQP Folder on intranet.
• Responsible to update specific program Open Issues on a regular basis and have ready for review in weekly Layered Process Audits.
• Maintain and Update Assembly and Component Prints.
• Proper tracking of incoming and outgoing math data.
• Consider customer SOR, warranty info, customer timing, part validation requirements during design process.
• Participate and present in regularly scheduled Design Reviews as organized by Program Manager
• Conduct regular Benchmarking activity as specified by the Director of Engineering.
• Update and communicate updates to Design Standards.
• The designer reports to and may also be responsible to carry out other tasks as directed by the Design Manager of Director of Engineering.

Qualifications and Skills

• 2 - 10 years of experience in the Automotive Parts Industry
• Has a Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Familiar with customer and AIAG requirements
• Understands the Injection Moulding process and Tooling
• Understands design tools, such as DFA, DFMEA, etc.
• Has excellent computer skills including all Microsoft Office Applications
• Strong design literacy in NX (UG) or Catia
• Understands key Quality & Environmental Management Systems procedures
• Has superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively
• Takes initiative and is able to identify areas for opportunity
• Has excellent verbal and written communication skills
