Position Overview
A leading investment firm is seeking a Corporate Controller with strong accounting and analytical skills to join its dynamic team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, highly organized professional who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, compliance, treasury management, and financial analysis while driving process improvements and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Compliance Reporting
- Oversee the completion of annual audits for corporate (ASPE) and asset manager (IFRS) entities.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of quarterly OSC compliance reporting.
- Manage compliance reporting for credit agreements and investor commitments.
- Lead the preparation and review of monthly financial reporting packages for executive review.
- Coordinate quarterly valuations, serving as the key liaison between private equity and real estate teams.
Payroll And Compensation
- Oversee compensation plan tracking across multiple structures, including stock options, profit-sharing (LTIP), and deferred trust unit plans.
- Calculate and manage profit-sharing allocations as per Investment Limited Partnership Agreements.
- Maintain corporate capitalization records and track the Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP).
- Work with Legal and Tax teams on employee compensation settlements and incentive plan administration.
- Ensure timely payroll-related filings, including T4s, EHT, WSIB, and CRA payroll inquiries.
Treasury & Cashflow Management
- Monitor corporate liquidity, ensuring effective cash flow management.
- Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts and recommend credit line utilization to optimize liquidity.
- Collaborate with investment and development teams to maintain accurate cash flow projections.
- Oversee corporate banking access and maintain robust payment processing controls.
Financial Analysis & Performance Measurement
- Lead quarterly Net Asset Value (NAV) forecasting in collaboration with investment teams.
- Analyze business unit profitability and refine overhead cost allocation methodologies.
- Maintain and track investment performance metrics and Assets Under Management (AUM).
People Management & Process Improvement
- Lead and develop a team of professional accountants, conducting performance reviews and providing mentorship.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Conduct root cause analysis on process gaps and recommend enhancements.
Other Responsibilities
- Resolve complex accounting issues and provide recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and ASPE accounting regulations.
- Act as the first point of contact for problem resolution.
- Respond to internal and external requests for ad hoc financial analysis.
Candidate Profile
- CPA, CA designation required.
- 8-10 years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years post-designation and 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical accounting expertise (IFRS & ASPE).
- Experience with Yardi is an asset.
- Proven leadership and people management skills.
- Results-driven, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across various teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A hands-on, "roll-up-the-sleeves" approach to achieving business goals.
