Job summary

North & Company LLP in Lethbridge, Alberta, is seeking an experienced Corporate / Commercial Legal Assistant to join our team. You will provide administrative and legal support within our corporate and commercial practice, coordinating with lawyers and clients to manage busy workflows.

The right candidate will have a Legal Assistant Diploma or equivalent, 3–5+ years of relevant experience, and familiarity with corporate, commercial, and real estate transactions, as well as legal software.

Qualifications

  • Legal Assistant Diploma or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in corporate, commercial, or commercial real estate support preferred.
  • Experience with legal practice management, corporate records, conveyancing, or related software.
  • Knowledge of Alberta corporate, commercial, and/or real estate processes and procedures.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Discretion with confidential information; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, draft, format, and revise legal documents and correspondence.
  • Assist with corporate/commercial matters including incorporations, reorganizations, and real estate transactions.
  • Assist with commercial real estate transactions—financing, leases, registrations.
  • Conduct corporate/title searches and prepare related documents.
  • Coordinate with clients, financial institutions, government offices, registries and others to support timely transactions.
  • Prepare closing documents and post-closing requirements.
  • Maintain organized client files and monitor deadlines and follow-ups.
  • Manage calendars and administrative duties for assigned lawyers.
  • Provide additional practice support as needed.

We are currently seeking an experienced Corporate / Commercial Legal Assistant to join our Lethbridge team. This position is well suited to an organized and detail-oriented legal professional who enjoys managing a busy practice, working collaboratively with lawyers and clients, and taking ownership of their work.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide administrative and legal support within our Corporate / Commercial practice. Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing, drafting, formatting, and revising legal documents, correspondence, agreements, and related materials;
  • Assisting with corporate and commercial matters, including incorporations, reorganizations, annual maintenance, purchases and sales, financing, and other business transactions;
  • Assisting with commercial real estate transactions, including purchases, sales, financing, leases, easements, and registrations;
  • Conducting corporate, title, and other applicable searches and preparing related documentation;
  • Coordinating with clients, financial institutions, government offices, registries, and other parties to support the timely completion of transactions;
  • Preparing closing documentation and coordinating registrations and post-closing requirements;
  • Maintaining organized and accurate electronic and physical client files;
  • Monitoring deadlines, follow-up requirements, and outstanding documentation;
  • Managing correspondence, calendars, appointments, and other administrative requirements for assigned lawyers; and
  • Providing additional administrative and practice support as required.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Legal Assistant Diploma or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience;
  • Previous experience supporting a corporate, commercial, or commercial real estate practice, with 3‑5+ years of relevant experience preferred;
  • Experience with legal practice management, corporate records, conveyancing, or related legal software;
  • Knowledge of Alberta corporate, commercial, and/or real estate processes and procedures;
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines;
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high‑quality work;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information;
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment; and
  • A proactive approach to identifying priorities, following up on outstanding matters, and supporting the efficient progression of client files.
