Reporting to the Environmental Director, the Environmental Coordinator will assist the Director in planning, organizing, controlling, and monitoring environmental activities. The coordinator will be required to work closely with staff from various affiliated companies, external consultants, and other members of the Company, depending on the projects and expected results. Based at the Windfall site in the Northern Quebec region, the Environmental Coordinator will work an eight (8)-day work schedule followed by six (6) days off. Willingness to transition to a 15/13 schedule in the medium term is required. Transportation, lodging, and meals are provided.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Act at all times as a leader in safety, environmental protection, and community relations to help achieve the highest standards;
• Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and regulations, and ensure that staff adhere to these rules;
• Assist in establishing objectives, schedules, and budgets for their department;
• Support management in managing their unit’s human, material, and financial resources;
• Plan and supervise employees’ work and apply supervisory procedures;
• Participate in the implementation of an environmental management system;
• Implement short-, medium-, and long-term plans, policies, and procedures related to environmental protection;
• Prepare documentation and coordinate environmental management training for mining personnel and subcontractors;
• Ensure regulatory and environmental compliance for the organization’s activities and operations;
• Coordinate and monitor the various tasks carried out in collaboration with external consultants;
• Oversee and ensure the management and monitoring of environmental permits and leases obtained for mining activities;
• Prepare annual reports and filings for various government agencies;
• Raise awareness among the various stakeholders of the Windfall project regarding the principles of sound environmental management;
• Support and oversee the planning of the environmental monitoring program;
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports on the department’s activities for internal and external communication;
• Develop, manage, audit, and update environmental procedures;
• Conduct performance evaluations of staff under their supervision;
• Perform any other duties related to the position of environmental coordinator that are relevant to the project’s success.

Qualifications

• A university degree in a field relevant to the position;
• At least ten (10) years of experience in the environmental field, including five (5) years of supervisory/coordinating experience;
• Experience working with First Nations (an asset);
• Modular Training for Mine Workers (MTM) (an asset).

Technical skills

• Functional English, both spoken and written (will need to communicate with English-speaking employees and suppliers);
• Experience working with an environmental management system compliant with ISO 14001 (a plus);
• Excellent knowledge of the regulatory framework governing mining development;
• Proficiency in the regulations governing exploration and mining operations (Directive 019, REMMMD);
• Expertise in the areas of water, soil, air, and energy.
