Job summary

Dalhousie University is seeking a Coordinator, Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) to lead strategic coordination and operational direction for the RCR unit. The role spans human ethics, animal ethics, research security, integrity, Indigenous research, environmental health and safety, and internal audit, developing and implementing RCR frameworks and training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, public administration, adult education, ethics, public policy, information management, with three to five years’ relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and coordinating compliance, governance, policy, or regulatory programs within a complex organizational environment.
• Demonstrated experience supporting governance, compliance, or policy development related to research ethics, privacy, research security, research integrity, or conflict of interest.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, coordination, and implementation of institution-wide RCR strategies, policies, procedures, and compliance initiatives.
• Foster collaboration across ethics, integrity, security, safety, audit, and admin units to promote a coordinated research environment.
• Design, deliver, and evaluate educational programs and training resources for faculty, staff, and students.
• Coordinate compliance monitoring and validation activities, including reviews, assessments, reporting, and follow-up actions.
• Prepare institutional reports and support responses to audits and investigations.
• Advise on research integrity and conflict of interest processes and assist with inquiries and investigations.

Job Summary

Dalhousie University is a member of Canada’s U15 group of research-intensive universities. In 2025–26, Dalhousie administers more than $270 million in annual research funding. Reporting to the Managing Director, Responsible Conduct of Research ( RCR ), the Coordinator, Responsible Conduct of Research provides strategic coordination, operational direction, and educational programming in support of the university’s Responsible Conduct of Research ( RCR ) unit. The Coordinator fosters collaboration among colleagues leading portfolios including human ethics, animal ethics, research security, research integrity, Indigenous research, environmental health and safety, and internal audit, and is responsible for developing and implementing RCR frameworks, tools and training, including validation activities, and for tracking and reporting on RCR -related activities across the institution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, coordination, and implementation of institution-wide responsible conduct of research ( RCR ) strategies, policies, procedures, and compliance initiatives aligned with regulatory requirements and institutional priorities.
• Foster collaboration across research ethics, integrity, security, safety, audit, and administrative units to promote a coordinated and accountable research environment.
• Design, deliver, and evaluate educational programs and training resources that support faculty, staff, and students in understanding and meeting responsible research obligations.
• Coordinate compliance monitoring and validation activities, including reviews, assessments, reporting, and follow-up actions to strengthen research accountability and continuous improvement.
• Prepare institutional reports, support responses to audits and investigations, and serve as a key liaison with internal stakeholders and external agencies on matters related to research conduct.
• Advise and support research integrity and conflict of interest processes, providing guidance on complex research compliance matters and contributing to the resolution of allegations, inquiries, and investigations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, public administration, adult education, ethics, public policy, information management, with three to five years’ relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
• Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and coordinating compliance, governance, policy, or regulatory programs within a complex organizational environment.
• Demonstrated experience supporting governance, compliance, or policy development related to research ethics, privacy, research security, research integrity, or conflict of interest.
• Demonstrated knowledge of responsible conduct of research principles, research compliance requirements, and national and international regulatory frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience/ability to develop policies, procedures, educational programs, and institutional initiatives while collaborating with diverse stakeholders and senior leadership.
• Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to prepare reports, conduct reviews, and manage sensitive and confidential matters.
