Pay Grade
Pay Grade The annual salary range is $70,437- $112,872 (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications, experience, and the placement criteria of Article 14 of the NICFA Collective agreement.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, Indigenous Education, or designate, the Coordinator, Indigenous Education supports the operational coordination, development, delivery and continuous improvement of Indigenous Education programming. The position has a primary presence at the Comox Valley Campus and supports on-campus, online and in-community programming across the College region.
The Coordinator works closely with Indigenous Education leadership, faculty, service departments, Elders, Knowledge Keepers and community partners to support effective program implementation. Areas of responsibility include program and course scheduling processes, faculty onboarding and operational support, program review, curriculum coordination, enrolment and recruitment activities, in-community delivery, coordination of Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and Journeying to Reconciliation and related faculty professional development.
The Coordinator provides process coordination, continuity and operational support. The position does not supervise faculty, assign faculty workload, evaluate faculty performance, adjudicate student appeals, or exercise formal academic, personnel, financial or community partnership authority.

Duties & Responsibilities
Operational Coordination and Program Delivery
- Coordinate the day-to-day operational requirements of Indigenous Education programming delivered on campus, online and in-community with Indigenous Education leadership, faculty, Students Records, Student Services and relevant College departments.
- Coordinate program start-up and implementation requirements, including faculty onboarding, instructional materials, technology, facilities, travel, student orientation and community-based logistics.
- Identify scheduling conflicts, faculty coverage needs, delivery risks and operational concerns and bring recommendations forward to the Executive Director or designate.
- Facilitate regular faculty meetings and program-planning discussions to ensure faculty are informed of program developments, timelines and operational requirements.
- Support the implementation and ongoing coordination of approved certificate, diploma, pathway, contract, cohort, online and in-community programming.
- Maintain timely communication with faculty and Indigenous Education leadership regarding delivery needs and emerging concerns.
- Work within established community relationships, protocols and approved program commitments.
- Refer matters involving new program commitments, partnership agreements, changes to approved delivery or community relationship concerns to Indigenous Education leadership.
Program Review and Continuous Improvement
- Coordinate Indigenous Education program review processes in collaboration with the Executive Director or designate, faculty, Quality Assurance and relevant College departments.
- Develop program review timelines, and consultations, gather relevant program information and support the preparation of review documentation.
- Gather and organize feedback from students, faculty, Elders, Knowledge Keepers and community partners to support program evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Monitor program implementation, enrolment, retention and delivery information and prepare summaries to support planning and decision-making.
- Support the review of new and existing Indigenous Education programming to ensure delivery remains responsive to student, community and institutional needs.
- Support and coordinate Indigenous Education transfer credit and articulation requests, including requests connected to BCCAT and the BC Transfer Guide, by gathering relevant curriculum documentation, liaising with faculty and service departments, and referring recommendations through the appropriate College processes.
- Coordinate curriculum development and revision processes for Indigenous Education courses and programs, including timelines, faculty working groups, documentation and Education Council submission requirements.
- Support faculty in preparing and updating course outlines, program documents and curriculum proposals in accordance with College processes.
- Coordinate the implementation of approved curriculum changes and communicate changes to faculty and relevant service departments.
- Maintain current curriculum records and support consistency between approved curriculum, scheduled delivery and published program information.
- Work collaboratively with the Indigenous Curriculum Committee to support curriculum review, resource development and approved Indigenous curriculum initiatives.
- Coordinate Indigenous Education curriculum matters being brought forward to the Indigenous Curriculum Committee and communicate recommendations and next steps to faculty and Indigenous Education leadership.
- Support connections among Indigenous Education faculty, the Indigenous Curriculum Committee and Quality Assurance.
Journeying to Reconciliation and Faculty Professional Development
- Coordinate the planning, scheduling and delivery of Journeying to Reconciliation and related faculty professional development activities.
- Facilitate approved Journeying to Reconciliation sessions where appropriate and within the incumbent’s qualifications and assigned workload.
- Coordinate Elders, Knowledge Keepers, facilitators, participant communication, learning materials, evaluations and completion records.
- Work with Indigenous Education leadership, faculty and relevant College departments to maintain and strengthen approved Journeying to Reconciliation resources and delivery processes.
- Gather participant feedback and support the ongoing evaluation and improvement of Journeying to Reconciliation.
Communication, Committees and Reporting
- Participate in relevant College committees, working groups and planning activities as assigned.
- Communicate approved program changes, deadlines and operational requirements to faculty and relevant service departments.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the purpose and scope of the position, as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in Indigenous Education, Education or a related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum three years of demonstrated experience in post-secondary education, Indigenous Education, program coordination, teaching, faculty support or a related area.
- Demonstrated experience working respectfully and effectively with Indigenous peoples, communities, Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Experience coordinating program operations, scheduling, program review, curriculum processes and/or Education Council submissions.
- Experience supporting faculty onboarding, professional development and program delivery.
- Experience coordinating on-campus, online, cohort, contract or in-community programming.
- Experience facilitating learning related to Indigenous education, reconciliation or culturally responsive practice is an asset.
- Experience with student recruitment, retention and support initiatives is an asset.
- Indigenous ancestry is preferred.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures, contemporary realities, rights and responsibilities, with particular awareness of the Nations and communities within the College region.
- Demonstrated ability to work within established community relationships, cultural protocols and institutional responsibilities.
- Strong organizational, project coordination and operational planning skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities within a part-time workload.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate program and curriculum processes without assuming supervisory, workload assignment or formal academic decision-making responsibilities.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments, campuses and communities.
- Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to identify when matters require referral or escalation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills, with demonstrated attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, learning management systems and relevant College information systems.
- Ability to foster a respectful, collegial and culturally safe learning and working environment.
- Valid BC driver’s licence and ability to travel between campuses and to in-community locations, including occasional adjusted work hours.
