Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority seeks a Coordinator – Harm Reduction to plan, coordinate, and implement community-based testing initiatives for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections. • Coordinate training of community-based workers to increase testing access for blood-borne infections.
• Provide logistical support for community-based testing initiatives.
• Coordinate data collection for ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
• Collaborate with SLFNHA initiatives for harm reduction and program planning.
• Write reports and proposals to support hepatitis C projects.
• Contribute to sharing knowledge generated by hepatitis C projects.
• Maintain a STBBI working group by coordinating bi-monthly meetings and liaising with external partners.

Position Summary
The Coordinator – Harm Reduction is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing community – based testing initiatives for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections. This role involves working closely with community leaders and health system providers to conduct readiness assessments, coordinate training activities, and ensure quality control. The Coordinator also oversees monitoring and evaluation processes, including the collection and analysis of program data to support continuous improvement.

Accountability
The Coordinator – Harm Reduction will be directly accountable to the Manager – Harm Reduction.

Qualifications

• Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
• University degree in a health-related field or a combination of education/experience as deemed acceptable by SLFNHA.
• A minimum of two years of combined experience in health planning, project management, health promotion and education, and/or public health, including work related to blood-borne infections and harm reduction.
• Understanding of the unique determinants of health for First Nations in northwestern Ontario, and the health landscape in which they seek services.
• Active interest in hepatitis C and harm reduction as it pertains to individuals who use substances.
• Excellent planning, organization, time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Experience with monitoring and evaluation, community-based research, and knowledge translation methodologies.
• Professional integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Experience working both independently and in a team-orientated, collaborative environment.
• Ability to develop and maintain respectful/cooperative relationships with First Nations people, communities, service stakeholders, and health care providers to promote an integrated seamless delivery of service.
• Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills.
• Ability to complete reports and documentation.
• Valid Class G driver’s license or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to travel.
• Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout region is an asset.
• Ability to perform the requirements of the role on a regular basis

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Provide overall coordination of the Sioux Lookout and community-based components of the dried blood spot testing initiative.
2. Conduct community consultation processes such as community visits, meetings, video conferences, and teleconferences.
3. Develop detailed workplans with the project team, community leaders, and local healthcare providers.
4. Coordinate training of community-based workers to support increased access to testing for blood-borne infections.
5. Provide logistical support for community-based testing initiatives.
6. Coordinate data collection for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project.
7. Collaborate with existing SLFNHA initiatives for harm reduction and control of blood-borne infections and contribute to broader SLFNHA program planning processes as requested.
8. Write reports and proposals, as necessary, to support the development of the hepatitis C projects and initiatives.
9. Contribute to the development of methods and tools for sharing and disseminating knowledge generated by the hepatitis C projects and initiatives.
10. Maintain a STBBI working group by coordinating bi-monthly meetings and serving as a liaison between external health partners and the group to support collaboration and information sharing.
11. All other duties as assigned.
