Job summary

Autism Services in Saskatchewan seeks a capable cook/cook helper to prepare nutritious meals for staff and participants. You will maintain a clean kitchen, manage inventory, and order weekly supplies, while supervising Cooks Helpers and coordinating with staff on special diets.

Required are Grade 10 or equivalent, 1–2 years cooking experience, Saskatchewan Safe Food Handling Certificate, and background checks.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-2 years cooking experience preferred.
  • Experience in preparing food and snacks.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Saskatchewan Safe Food Handling Certificate required.
  • Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check and SGI Driver Abstract required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare nutritious meals and snacks for staff and participants.
  • Maintain and sanitize cooking facility and equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of food and supplies.
  • Order food/supplies for weekly meals cost-effectively.
  • Schedule, train and supervise Cooks Helpers.
  • Address special diets (allergies, religious) with staff.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety regulations and sanitation.
  • Assist Head cook with garden/greenhouse tasks for fresh food.
  • Maintain safety standards in food prep and storage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Job description

The suitable candidates will be able to perform the following duties:
  • Preparation of nutritious meals and snacks for staff and participants;
  • Maintain and sanitize cooking facility and equipment
  • Monitor and maintain the inventory of food and supplies
  • Order food/supplies for weekly meals in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Schedule, train and supervise Cooks Helpers
  • Works closely with all staff to ensure special diets (allergies, religious) are being addressed
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety regulations, sanitation protocols and maintain high standards of safe kitchen environment to minimize any potential health risks
  • Assist Head cook in harvesting, planting and growing of garden and greenhouse to produce fresh food
  • Maintain proper safety standards throughout all food preparation and storage
  • Other duties as assigned from Supervisor
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Grade 10 or equivalent preferred
  • 1-2 years Cooking experience preferred
  • Experience in preparing food and snacks
  • Good communication skills
  • Must have Saskatchewan Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, & SGI Driver Abstract
