Job summary

The Salvation Army in Victoria, BC is hiring a Kitchen/Restaurant Helper to prepare meals according to menus, follow food-safety regulations, and support daily kitchen operations.

No formal education is required; reading and writing are essential, and a Food Safe 1 basic certification is required. Expect standing for long periods and lifting up to 40 lbs, with background checks and safety training as part of employment.

Qualifications

• No formal academic education is required.
• Must be able to read and write.
• One-year minimum kitchen/restaurant helper experience is required.
• Initially, must provide own non-slip, safety work boots.
• Food Safe 1 basic is a requirement of employment.
• Must provide verification of negative TB skin test.
• Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check.
• Willing to take Occupational First Aid Certification after being hired.
• Must understand and reflect the ARC Philosophy, Standards, and Tenets.
• Successful candidates will provide background check consent.
• A clear vulnerable sector screening.
• A clean drivers abstract (optional).
• Completion of online Praesidium/Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals in accordance with standardized recipes and dietary requirements.
• Follow safe food handling and food-safe practices at all times.
• Utilize various cooking methods to produce menu items.
• Rotate inventory to minimize waste.
• Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and sanitation procedures.
• Maintain communication with team for quality production and service.
• Comply with hazard communication procedures and allergen identification.
• Apply safe lifting techniques.
• Maintain kitchen, dining, and storage areas cleanliness.
• Demonstrate high standards of personal hygiene and participate in inspections.
• Coordinate with co-workers, students, or volunteers when supervisor absent.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
