Job summary

Meadow Park London is seeking a Cook for a temporary part-time, on-site role at 1210 Southdale Rd East, London, ON. You will prepare meals, follow menus, and ensure food safety in a long-term care setting.

Under the Culinary Manager, you will support meal service timing, documentation, CQI, and ongoing education. LTC cooking experience is an asset; WHMIS and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must hold chef training or culinary management credential from an Ontario college or equivalent.
  • Must have completed the public health food handler training program.
  • Cooking experience in Long Term Care is an asset.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Active interest in ongoing education; must be computer literate.

Responsibilities

  • Cook according to recipes and menus; follow food safety standards.
  • Document resident changes accurately and support CQI initiatives.
  • Promote wellness and assist with menu planning and service timing.
  • Maintain safe use of chemicals and comply with WHMIS and safety rules.

Meadow Park London is a fully accredited long term care home in London. Ontario and serves 126 residents. It is a growing urban center in Southwestern Ontario, and is known for its numerous parks, cultural attractions, and strong economy in sectors like agri-food, advanced manufacturing, and health sciences. Situated on the Thames River, London is located approximately 200 km west of Toronto and 200 km east of Windsor, it serves as a regional hub for medical, educational, and business services.

Under the direction of the Culinary Manager, this role focuses primarily on meal preparation, food safety, and adherence to legislative and facility standards. Key duties include cooking according to recipes and menus, conforming to Public Health and legislative standards for food handling, reporting resident condition changes, accurate documentation, participating in continuous quality improvement (CQI), ongoing education, and promoting wellness. This role also involves menu planning input, assisting with meal service timing, safe use of chemicals (WHMIS), efficient use of resources, and strict adherence to occupational health and safety regulations, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.

We are looking for the following qualifications and traits
  • Must have a chef training or culinary management diploma or certificate granted from a college established under the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or from a private career college under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005; or holds a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cook as required under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation 82/22 (1); or institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience to adequately fulfill the role.
  • Must have completed the food handler training program, provided by public health, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
  • Cooking experience in Long Term Care is an asset.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education.
  • Must be computer literate
