Job summary

Jarlette Health Services' Leacock Retirement Lodge in Orillia invites applications for a part-time Cook. This on-site role supports the Culinary Manager with daily menu item preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and arranging plated meals for residents.

Responsibilities

The Cook is an integral part of the service team, enriching the lives of our residents through a quality culinary experience. Working side by side with the Culinary Manager, the Cook will be responsible for the daily preparation of menu items, maintaining a clean sanitary professional working space and helping with the presentation of menu items for service.

Key responsibilities also include ingredient inventory management, strict adherence to food safety (stock rotation, temperature, storage, labeling), and utilizing safe work practices. Staff must also maintain documentation, apply CQI and Risk Management principles, participate in mandatory education, promote resident wellness, foster collaboration, and report resident condition changes to supervisors.

We are looking for the following qualifications and traits:

  • Hold a chef training or culinary management diploma or certificate granted from a college established under the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or from a private career college under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005; or holds a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cook is preferred
  • Must have completed the food handler training program, provided by public health, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
  • Minimum of 2 years cooking experience in a Retirement Community preferred
  • WHMIS training
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education.
  • Must be computer literate
