Job summary

Ngwaagan Gamig Recovery Centre Inc. is seeking a Cook to join its interdisciplinary team at a beautiful recovery centre located on Wikwemikong territory. The Cook will be responsible for meal preparation, menu planning, and maintaining sanitary standards while fostering positive vendor relationships. Ideal candidates will have a Culinary Skills Diploma, relevant experience, and strong organizational skills. This role offers the opportunity to serve the community through culturally-based addictions treatment and prevention services.

Qualifications

  • Completion of diploma in Culinary Skills or related discipline.
  • Experience as a cook within a residential facility.
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, language, and issues is an asset.

Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Ngwaagan Gamig Recovery Centre Inc. (NGRC Inc.) is an accredited organization that is growing and expanding and has an
opening for a Cook. The Cook is a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for performing duties, activities,
and assignments within the vision and mission of NGRC Inc.
Our beautiful recovery centre is located on the Unceded Territory of Wikwemikong on Manitoulin Island and is dedicated to the
delivery of culturally based addictions treatment and prevention services.
Usual work hours will be day shift, Monday to Friday, although some extended hours may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
➢ Work under the direction of management, with minimal supervision
➢ Prepare menu planning and meals according to the Canada Food Guide and that accommodate for clients requiring a
special diet
➢ Prepare meals as requested for Board meetings and community events/activities
➢ Receive all food deliveries
➢ Monitor and order supplies and inventory
➢ Ensure all sanitation and safety standards are adhered to
➢ Acquire and maintain positive relationships with vendors
➢ Provide activity reports to supervisor as required
➢ Working the schedule as developed that allows for meeting clients’ and organizational needs
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
➢ Completion of diploma in Culinary Skills or related discipline
➢ Experience working as a cook within a residential facility
➢ Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, language, and issues is an asset
➢ Knowledge of the services and programs within Ngwaagan Gamig Recovery Centre Inc.
➢ Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills
➢ Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills
➢ Must demonstrate an ability to communicate well and to document the interactions accurately and appropriately
➢ Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills
➢ Valid Class G and/or F Driver’s License
➢ Must possess current certification in Safe Food Handling and First Aid
➢ Must be willing to submit a current Driver’s Abstract and a criminal reference check with a vulnerable sector screen
(CPIC-VSC)
