Position: Cook

We are looking for a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring residents' nutritional needs are met with delicious, wholesome meals. You will collaborate with the dietary team to plan menus, prepare meals, and maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.

Experience

Experience working in a long-term care facility is mandatory.

Responsibilities
  1. Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring all standards are met.
  2. Serve meals at appropriate temperatures and times.
  3. Assist with serving meals to residents, respecting their food preferences.
  4. Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling of food.
  5. Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus meeting nutritional needs and preferences.
  6. Assist in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering in coordination with the Food and Nutrition Manager.
  7. Monitor food inventory and communicate needs for supply ordering.
  8. Ensure compliance with Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements.
  9. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including equipment and utensils.
  10. Assist with special events and catering as needed.
Requirements
  1. Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  2. Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal.
  3. Valid Food Handler's Certificate, kept up to date.
  4. Experience in a long-term care setting or with seniors is preferred; experience in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality cooking is acceptable.
  5. Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 6 months.
  6. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination according to Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care policies.
Skills
  • Sincere interest in working with the elderly and sensitivity to their needs.
  • Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, including bending, standing, lifting, working with temperatures, and working safely following established procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete routines within scheduled times.
  • Flexibility and adaptability within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, both oral and written.
