Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans.
  • Ensure meals are served at the correct temperature and on time.
  • Assist with serving meals, respecting resident preferences.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus that meet nutritional needs.
  • Assist in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering supplies.
  • Monitor food inventory and coordinate supply orders.
  • Ensure compliance with Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and equipment.
  • Support with special events and catering as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program as per Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized college, preferably Red Seal.
  • Valid Food Handler's Certificate (must be kept current).
  • Experience in a long-term care setting or with seniors preferred; experience in healthcare, hospitality, or restaurant sectors accepted.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 6 months.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination per Ontario Ministry guidelines.
Skills

  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as bending, standing, lifting, and working safely in various temperatures.
