Job summary

Nook Kitsilano is seeking a full-time Cook in Vancouver, BC to prepare a variety of foods and ensure quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have over 12 months of cooking experience, strong communication and teamwork skills, and must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Benefits include staff meals, health and dental benefits, and discounts at Nook and sister restaurants.

• 12+ months of cooking experience required, or equivalent education.
• Physically capable of lifting and carrying heavy items and standing for long periods of time.
• Foodsafe certificate is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Set up a workstation with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
• Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
• Cook complete various foods according to our recipe.
• Check food while cooking to stir or turn.
• Check the quality of ingredients.
• Order or receive food supplies after selecting the best qualities.
• Ensure all food meets food safety and quality standards.
• Work with specialized equipment such as pizza ovens, grills, etc.
• Clean kitchen and work area.
• May schedule and/or train kitchen helpers.
• Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food- handling practices.

Requirements

• 12+ months of cooking experience required, or equivalent education.
• Completion of secondary school.
• Physically capable of lifting and carrying heavy items and standing for long periods of time.
