The role requires a passion for cooking, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation
    • Prepare ingredients, including chopping, slicing, and portioning, to be used in cooking.
    • Cook and assemble food according to recipes or instructions.
    • Ensure that all recipes are prepared and cooked in a timely manner to meet delivery deadlines.
    • Follow standardized recipes to ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portion sizes.
    • Portion, pack and label food according to recipe guidelines.
    • Store ingredients properly to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
  • Kitchen Organization:
    • Keep the kitchen organized by maintaining an orderly workstation.
    • Ensure all ingredients are labeled and stored properly to maintain food safety standards.
    • Assist in maintaining kitchen equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Food Safety and Cleanliness:
    • Follow all food safety guidelines to ensure the quality and safety of all food items.
    • Clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, and equipment.
    • Dispose of waste properly and recycle when possible.
    • Maintain proper storage of food products to prevent spoilage and cross-contamination.
    • Operate kitchen equipment safely and ensure that all Health and Safety standards are met
    • Ensure compliance of all food handling requirements and standards
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with the kitchen staff to ensure a smooth flow of kitchen operations.
    • Take direction from chefs and other cooks and adapt quickly to changes in workflow or recipes.
  • Inventory and Stock Management:
    • Assist in inventory management by tracking ingredient levels and notifying the kitchen manager when supplies are low.
    • Ensure that food items are used in the order they were received (FIFO - First In, First Out).
Skills And Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a cook, line cook, or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cooking techniques, ingredients, and flavor combinations.
  • Ability to work efficiently and handle multiple tasks in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items (up to 40 pounds).
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and sanitation practices is required.
  • Food Handler Certification is an asset
  • Familiar with sanitation and health and safety food regulations including proper handling of equipment
  • Work well under pressure independently
  • Proven leadership abilities
  • Strong communication skills - oral and written
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Flexible schedule
