Job summary

The Cook at Lookout Housing and Health Society will report to the Site Manager and is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving daily meals while ensuring food availability for guests. The role requires maintaining high cleanliness standards in kitchen and dining areas and overseeing volunteers.

Applicants must have Grade 12, a Cooking Diploma, and two years of related experience, plus First Aid and FOODSAFE certifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 education and Cooking Diploma; two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 and FOODSAFE Certificate from the Department of Health.
• Experience with institutions or large organizations including cost analysis and effectiveness.
• Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset.
• Ability to work independently or in a team and manage daily workload.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Must understand and maintain clientele/worker boundaries.
• Ability to work with disadvantaged adults in a diverse environment.

• Work with and oversee kitchen volunteers.

• Some shopping may occur.
• Responsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety program.
• Employees are expected to remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted.

Days and Hours of work

7 days a week, day, afternoon/evening and overnight shifts, weekdays, weekends and holidays
Shifts are 7.5 hours in length
Days of rest shall be consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks’ notice
Probationary/qualifying period will be 488 hours with mid and end point reviews

$27.17 - 28.97depending upon applicants' length of seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)

Job Summary

The Cook reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing andHealth Society including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. The Cook prepares, cooks, and serves daily meals and isresponsible for ensuring availability of food and beverages for guests. Maintains a high standard of cleanliness in eatingand prep areas.

This position requires successful completion of respirator fit testing, as Lookout is COR (Certificate of Recognition) certified and must comply with WorkSafeBC health and safety requirements. To ensure a proper respirator seal during fit testing and use, employees are required to be clean-shaven where the respirator seals against the face.

Qualifications & Competence

• Minimum Grade 12 education and Cooking Diploma plus two (2) years of recent related experience; or equivalentcombination of education, training, and experience
• Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 and FOODSAFE Certificate from the Department of Health
• Experience with institutions or large organizations including experience with cost analysis and effectiveness
• Experience in menu planning and developing order supply lists
• Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset
• Ability to work independently or in a team setting and to manage and organize daily workload
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Must understand and maintain clientele/worker boundaries
• Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment
• Quick learner and self-motivated
• Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks
• Must be able to operate job related equipment
• A minimum two (2) years of sobriety if you have had concerns related to alcohol and/or drug use
• Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector
