Job summary

Lookout Housing and Health Society in The Village is seeking a Building Attendant to perform administrative, maintenance, and security tasks within the residence. The role reports to the Site Manager and supports staff and residents under COR standards and Lookout’s ethics.

Applicants must have Grade 12 plus two years of related experience or equivalent, First Aid Level 1, and the ability to work independently or with a team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Rent collection, security deposits, petty cash management.
• Maintenance and basic repairs to furniture, switches, plugs, etc.
• Prepare maintenance and repair cost estimates for management.
• Cleaning, garbage removal, and disposal monitoring.
• Monitor client rooms for cleanliness and safety.
• Assist staff and volunteers to meet guest needs and support facilities.
• Maintain manual and computerized reports and records.
• Adhere to health and safety program requirements.

Tuesday through Saturday
Shift times will be 0030 - 0830 Hours
Shifts are 7.5 hours in length
Days of rest shall be consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks’ notice
Probationary/qualifying period will be 488 hours with mid and end point reviews

$28.56 - 30.45 depending upon applicants' length of seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)

Job Summary

The Building Attendant (BA) reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. Building Attendants perform a variety of administrative, maintenance, and security functions within the residence managed by Lookout.

This position requires successful completion of respirator fit testing, as Lookout is COR (Certificate of Recognition) certified and must comply with WorkSafeBC health and safety requirements. To ensure a proper respirator seal during fit testing and use, employees are required to be clean-shaven where the respirator seals against the face.

Job Duties

• Administrative tasks related to property management such as: rent collection, security deposits, petty cash
• Maintenance work and repair duties such as repairing furniture, installing switches, replacing plugs, and other basic appliance repairs
• Prepares estimates of maintenance and repair costs for management
• Performs a variety of cleaning duties, garbage removal, and monitors disposal services
• Monitors condition and cleanliness of client rooms, and ensures a safe and secure environment
• Will assist new staff, oversee volunteers, and work with all staff to ensure facilities meet the needs of guests
• Maintains manual and computerized reports and records on an ongoing basis
• Job duties may have a few disagreeable factors
• Employees are expected to remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted
• Responsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety program

Qualifications & Competence

• Minimum Grade 12 education plus two (2) years of recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
• Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset
• Ability to work independently or in a team setting
• Strong ability to manage stress and organize workload
• Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills
• Understands and maintains clientele/worker boundaries
• Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment
• Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks and operate job related equipment
• A minimum of two (2) years of sobriety if you have had concerns related to alcohol and/or drug use
• Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector
