Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; previous cook experience preferred in daycare or school setting.
  • Must hold a valid Food Handling Certificate or be willing to obtain; WHMIS training is an asset.
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition, special dietary requirements, and food safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently, stay organized, and operate within a set budget.
  • Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and rotate four-week menu cycles per national nutrition guidelines and diverse cultures.
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks daily in a hygienic, timely manner.
  • Order or purchase food and kitchen supplies within budget, ensuring vouchers/invoices are accurate.
  • Receive and store deliveries, maintaining an organized, sanitary kitchen environment.
  • Monitor stock levels, rotate inventory, and ensure food quality and safety.
  • Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness per the Food Premises Act.
  • Communicate daily with Early Childhood Educators about dietary needs and allergies.
  • Welcome and support practicum students and contribute to the team environment.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions (WHMIS, Food Handler’s), and professional development events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Full-Time Continuing Position Commencing September 21, 2026

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Early Learning Centre is seeking a dedicated and organized Cook to join our team. You will play an essential role in supporting the health and wellbeing of the children in our centre.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Plan and rotate four-week meal/snack menus in accordance with national nutrition guidelines and the cultural diversity of children.
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks daily in a hygienic and timely manner.
  • Order or purchase food and kitchen supplies within the established budget, ensuring vouchers/invoices are accurate.
  • Receive and store deliveries while maintaining an organized and sanitary kitchen environment.
  • Monitor stock levels, rotate inventory, and ensure quality and safety of food products.
  • Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness per the Food Premises Act.
  • Communicate daily with Early Childhood Educators about children’s dietary needs, allergies, or schedule changes.
  • Welcome and support practicum students and contribute positively to the team environment.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions (e.g., WHMIS, Food Handler’s), and professional development events.Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma required. Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a daycare or school setting, is considered an asset.

Employment requirements

  • Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.
