Job summary

Upper Canada Child Care in Markham is seeking a Cook to join our team at St. Rene Goupil-St. Luke CES. The cook/housekeeper handles purchasing, preparation and serving of meals and snacks, plus cleaning and admin daily logs.

This in-centre role supports our mission and includes a full benefit package. Candidates should have at least 1 year of food preparation experience and a food handler certification. The position offers benefits, personal days, vacation time, and growth opportunities within

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains a safe and healthy environment in line with internal and external guidelines.
  • Plans, prepares and delivers wholesome foods according to set menu and dietary restrictions for children.
  • Manages ordering, purchasing, receiving, and stocking within budget.
  • Maintains inventory, freshness, and minimizes waste.
  • Applies public health requirements for food prep, storage, dishwashing, and cleaning.
  • Operates dishwasher and laundry as needed; handles logs and checklists.
  • Keeps records up-to-date and informs supervisor of compliance issues.

We are currently recruiting a Cook to join our Team in Markhamat the following location: St. Rene Goupil-St. Luke CES.

This position is to fill an existing vacancy.

New June 2026 pay rates!

Pay Range: $20.06 - $22.93 /hour, plus full-time benefit package (including dental, health and travel insurance), 10 paid personal days plus paid vacation time.

Position Type & Required Availability:
  • Full-Time Position (25 hours/week): Candidates must be available to work a 5-hour shift Monday-Friday to be considered.

Position Summary:

The cook/housekeeper is responsible for all duties relating to the purchasing, preparation and serving of all snacks and meals. The cook/housekeeper is responsible for general cleaning, maintenance and housekeeping. The position includes administration tasks such as daily logs and records. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values. This is a fully in-centre position.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Creates and maintains a safe and healthy environment that is in compliance with all internal and external guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Plans, prepares and delivers wholesome and nutritious foods according to set standards and regulations. Follows a set menu while adhering to allergy/dietary restrictions of children.
  • Responsible for ordering, purchasing, receiving and unpacking of food and supplies while respecting set budgets. Shopping at local stores may be required.
  • Maintains centre inventory, ensures freshness and minimizes waste.
  • Applies knowledge of public health requirements relating to food preparation, storage, dishwashing and general cleaning/disinfecting practices.
  • Loads and unloads centre dishwasher. Hand-washes dishes and supplies as needed.
  • Operates laundry machines. Folds and maintains laundry as needed.
  • Records temperatures (food) and completes checklists/logs as required. Keeps all kitchen and house keeping records up-to-date.
  • Keeps team and supervisor apprised of compliance issues or problems related to outside regulations and internal policy.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in food preparation and serving.
  • Food handler certification.
  • Prior experience working with children an asset.
  • A recent Vulnerable Sector Check
  • At least 18 years of age or older due to licensing requirements.
  • Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation.
  • Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to operate standard kitchen appliances and laundry equipment.
  • Knowledge of Canada’s food guide
  • Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers and other professionals.
  • Have the physical stamina and ability to kneel, bend, lift and stand for extended periods.
  • Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required; including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, carrying and reaching.
