NATURE AND SCOPE

The Cook position plays a vital role insupporting the overall well-being of clients by assisting with the preparationand delivery of nutritious meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and foodsafety standards. Working under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager (ordesignate), this role contributes to a safe, respectful, and client-focusedenvironment by ensuring meals are prepared in a clean, organized, and efficientkitchen setting. The cook is responsible for meeting the diverse dietaryneeds of clients while maintaining high standards of sanitation, safety, andprofessionalism in a healthcare setting.

  • Assiststhe Kitchen Manager with preparing menus.
  • Assistswith food orders, receiving items, and managing inventory.
  • Preparesfood items according to set menus and recipes.
  • Arrangesand delivers completed meals.
  • Ensuresproper handling and storage of food supplies.
  • Operateskitchen equipment including knives, mixers, ovens, and dishwashers.
  • Maintainsa clean and sanitary kitchen environment, including utensils, appliances, anddishware, following health regulations.
  • Keepskitchen equipment safe and clean.
  • Sweepsand mops floors; maintains clean preparation, eating, and dining areas.
  • Monitorsfood quality and freshness, reporting concerns to the Dietary Manager.
  • Supportsspecial dietary needs by following instructions and monitoring allergies andrestrictions to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Participatesin training related to food safety, equipment use, and customer service.
  • Providesrespectful service to clients and visitors during meal times.
  • Attendsstaff meetings and workshops.
  • Demonstrateseffective organizational skills and time management.
  • Adheresto waste reduction practices and assists with recycling and compostinginitiatives.
  • Followskitchen safety protocols, including proper lifting and safe handling ofcleaning chemicals.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • HighSchool Diploma or GED with related experience preferred.
  • Food Safety Level One; Level Two would beconsidered an asset.
  • Demonstratedknowledge of food handling health standards.
  • Experiencein a commercial kitchen is an asset.
  • Abilityto prioritize, plan and manage time.
  • Integrity,flexibility and a quality assurance to safety.
  • Abilityto work independently and as part of a team.
  • Will berequired to obtain a Criminal record Check with Vulnerable sector check uponhiring and every 2 years of employment.
  • All employees are required tocomplete Naloxone training, along with other mandatory trainings, withintheirfirst three months of employment
