Job summary

COMPASS GROUP CANADA in Victoria, BC, is seeking a cook responsible for preparing and cooking food according to corporate standards and high-volume production guidelines. You will also support housekeeping duties and ensure food safety through proper labeling and storage.

The role requires experience as a restaurant or prep cook, a valid Food Safety Certification, and a certificate from a recognized cooking school.

Job description

Prepares food in accordance with applicable corporate standards, guidelines and regulations with established policies and procedures. Ensures quality food service is provided at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare, pre-cook and/or cook food products as directed.
• Prepare \"mise en place\" (setting in place of foods, garnishes, sauces, dishes, cutlery, etc) and other products as required for high volume production.
• Clean kitchen equipment after use according to health and safety policies and procedures.
• Label, date, store and rotate food and beverage products in appropriate storage areas.
• Communicate effectively with all appropriate operational departments.
• Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
• Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

• Proven cooking experience, including experience as a restaurant cook or prep cook.
• Food Safety Certification required.

This role will also contain casual support of the housekeeping team, duties will include:

• Clean and disinfect areas and items such as procedure areas, washrooms, stretchers, vents, interior windows, walls, glass, doors, and mirrors
• Strip, wash and make beds; collect and fold linen
• Damp mop hard floors and auto scrub as needed
• Check all primary areas, lobbies, stairwells, elevators/escalators, and mezzanines and clean as required
• Vacuum carpeted areas and complete carpet extraction as needed
• Remove all garbage from resident/patient rooms and common areas
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident and personnel information
• Maintain a safe environment at all times (e.g. use of wet floor signs)
• Perform duties according to health and safety guidelines
• Report all injuries and hazards to the supervisor immediately
• Responding to emergency cleanups as required
