Project background: We need Control Software Designers specialized in AB PLC.
"AB PLC" refers to a programmable logic controller (PLC) made by Allen-Bradley, which is a brand under Rockwell Automation.
Allen-Bradley PLCs are widely used in industrial automation for controlling machines and processes. Like other PLCs, they receive inputs from sensors, process the data, and control outputs such as motors, valves, and lights based on the programmed instructions.
Size of the team: 10 Controls Software Designers per project
Day-to-day tasks
What is the 9am-5pm routine?
- Programming: Complete understanding of Rockwell or Siemens Programming environments. Lead and complete code reviews. Capable of coding unique and complex applications from scratch.
- Integration: Debug and commission medium to large projects with multiple cells. Troubleshoot complex technical issues utilizing internal and external resources as needed.
- Communication: Resolve project issues directly with Project Management and other department leads. Communicate solutions, project status, escalations, and project needs.
- Decision Making: Make high-level decisions around project planning and schedule. Assign tasks to team members clearly and with deadlines. Estimate labor and schedule for a cell.
- Problem Solving: Coach others on the ABM tools and how to root cause complex issues.
- Level of Ownership: Take complete responsibility for assignments and manage all aspects to completion. Act quickly and decisively in fast-changing situations.
- Leadership: Execute a multi-cell project leading 1-3 team members from PKO to SAT. Focus on Customer: Develop and adjust project schedules to meet FAT dates. Ensure projects meet all URS requirements.
Must-Haves
- Experience in programming from scratch using AB PLCs (Allen-Bradley PLCs developed by Rockwell Automation).
- Experience in diverse industries: Not limited to automotive—due to high standardization in automotive industry, which leaves little room for creativity and real design.
- Knowledge of the full lifecycle of a project.
- Understanding of Allen-Bradley servo motors for pick-and-place motion.
- For Senior: Able to lead junior teammates (max 25% of the time). Note: No need for a project manager role.
Nice to Have:
- Experience programming and operating ABB robots.
- Familiarity with B&R PLC systems.
