Job summary

VOLCANIX AUTOMATION is seeking experienced Controls & Robotics Engineers with BIW or GA background to support automotive projects across North America, primarily with GM and other OEMs. Roles require on-site work in production environments and commuting distance to the GTA region or relocation.

Responsibilities include PLC programming, robotics integration (Fanuc, KUKA) for BIW, commissioning body shop equipment, and supporting launches and downtime reduction.

Qualifications

• 2+ years BIW (Body-in-White) or GA (General Assembly) experience.
• Experience with GM GCCS/GRS standards or BIW within automotive industry (OEM or Tier 1).
• Willingness to travel 90–100% across North America and work on-site in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC systems.
• Program and integrate industrial robots in BIW applications (spot welding, handling, sealing).
• Commission and debug body shop equipment and robotic cells.
• Support launches, cycle time improvements, and downtime reduction.
• Integrate robots with PLC-controlled systems and safety devices.
• Work with welding systems (spot, projection, stud welding).
• Perform system validation, buy-offs, and customer acceptance tests.
• Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and robotic issues on-site.
• Collaborate with controls, mechanical, and production teams.

VOLCANIX AUTOMATION is seeking experienced Controls & Robotics Engineers with a strong BIW (Body-in-White) or GA (General Assembly) background to support automotive projects across North America, primarily with General Motors and other OEMs. Our clients are located outside of Greater Toronto Area (GTA), so candidates should be within commuting distance of the region or willing to relocate.

This role involves working on automotive body shop systems, including robotic welding cells, framing stations, and high-speed automated lines. Candidates must be comfortable working on-site in demanding production environments and supporting launches, integrations, and troubleshooting activities

Responsibilities

• Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC systems

Required Skills

Controls Engineering:

• Strong PLC programming experience
• Platforms:
  • Allen-Bradley (RSLogix / Studio 5000)
  • Siemens (TIA Portal)
• Experience with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet)

Robotics (BIW Focus):

• Experience with industrial robots such as:
  • Fanuc
  • KUKA
• Experience in robotic welding applications (spot welding highly preferred)
• Strong commissioning and troubleshooting skills in body shop environments

Mandatory Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in BIW (Body-in-White) or GA (General Assembly)
• Experience withGeneral Motors standards (GCCS / GRS)

or

• strong experience in BIW within the automotive industry (OEM or Tier 1)

Preferred Experience

• OEM experience (GM, Ford, Stellantis, Tesla)
• Tier 1 automotive suppliers
• Experience with:
  • Framing stations
  • Geo stations
  • Re-spot lines
• Integration of welding controllers (e.g., Bosch, ARO)
• Vision systems and error proofing (EPP)

General Requirements

• Willingness to travel 90–100% across North America
• Ability to work independently on customer sites
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting mindset
• Good communication and documentation skills
• Engineering or technical degree preferred
