Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a Controls and Software Technologist to advance refurbishment tooling projects at Pickering. Youll design, install and test test environments, perform hardware/software qualifications and support tooling site activities in a nuclear setting.

Youll collaborate on configuration management, change control, and project planning, ensuring quality, safety, and timely delivery while leveraging a hybrid work culture and strong cross‑functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• Post‑secondary technical degree or equivalent work experience.
• Engineering drawings interpretation.
• Siemens PLC programming experience – Step 7, S7‑SCL, S7‑GRAPH, S7‑Starter, SIMATIC NET, WinCC Flexbile and S7 Distributed Safety.
• Siemens SCADA programming experience – WinCC Classic.
• Siemens PROFIBUS and PROFITNET.
• PELCO experience (Endura Certified System Technician an asset).
• Nuclear Quality Assurance program knowledge.
• Engineering Change Control program knowledge.
• Computer proficiency – Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Shift work (days/afternoons/nights).

Responsibilities

• Execute assigned software project scope in a timely manner.
• Assess suitability of hardware and pre‑developed software components.
• Design, install and test an assigned product test environment.
• Provide site support and software maintenance services.
• Maintain the development environment and tool installations.
• Manage configuration, document management and change control systems.
• Support hardware selection and qualification for tooling.
• Assist in preparing validation tests and review results.
• Manage software file releases and documentation through change control.
• Prepare work plans for software change activities.
• Contribute to OPEX reviews and future design changes.
• Deliver presentations on software development to clients.
• Ensure safety and collaborate with the Project Safety Manager.
• Identify growth opportunities and scope for future work.

Job Description Overview

As a new member of the Pickering tooling team, you will be involved with a variety of exciting refurbishment tools, supporting the design and modifications for the tooling systems. We are seeking an extremely self‑motivated Controls and Software Technologist who is eager to advance their career in the nuclear industry. The successful candidate will perform engineering work in compliance with AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs, applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong collaboration with colleagues and clients to execute assigned engineering tasks with precision and quality.

Your role

• Responsible for timely execution of the assigned scope in the assigned software project capacities.
• Performing the suitability assessment (and qualifications where needed) of system hardware and pre‑developed software components.
• Responsible for designing, installing and testing of an assigned product test environment.
• Responsible for site support and software maintenance services.
• Implementing and maintaining the development environment (hardware and software) required to support project activities, including tool installation, backup and disaster recovery.
• Implementation and maintaining key project support systems (i.e., configuration management, document management and change control systems) for the tooling department.
• Supporting the selection and qualification of Control Systems hardware by the tooling group.
• Assist on preparing validation tests and/or reviewing the results of the validation testing.
• Responsible for change control – Using configuration management system provided by his/her department to maintain software files, releases and documentation.
• Preparing and maintaining work plans for the control software change activities.
• Responsible for OPEX Review – Assembling OPEX and assessing what changes should be incorporated in the future designs of Tooling and Equipment.
• Responsible for upholding the technical quality of the assigned scope.
• Responsible for reporting and suggesting resolutions to any potential impacts to technical quality identified by the various tool manufactures and vendors.
• Responsible for the assigned software project planning and scheduling activities.
• Prepare and deliver presentations related to software development and maintenance to clients, as required.
• Ensure all work activities are performed safely, in collaboration with the Project Safety Manager.
• Identify potential work scopes and opportunities for growth.
