Controller - 3-month Contract
Location: Vaughan, Ontario
Employment Type: Contract
This is a very hands-on role with key responsibilities including:
- Reviewing daily bank balances, performing cash flow reporting, cash flow forecasting, and bank reconciliations.
- Reviewing aged accounts payable reports, overseeing APCoordinator’s check run preparation with correct PO backup and payment approvals, managing vendor disputes and rebate calculations.
- Preparing monthly invoices promptly and following up on collections; reviewing AR aging reports.
- Preparing accounts and reports on fixed assets, disposals, and amortization schedules.
- Ensuring annual physical inventory counts are conducted and implementing appropriate financial controls on inventory management.
- Reviewing, overseeing, and approving payroll reports for employees and subcontractors to ensure accurate payments, source deductions, payroll tax filings, and remittances.
- Conducting month-end close procedures, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement preparation, including balance sheets, income statements, and variance analysis.
- Preparing annual budgets and forecasts.
- Managing the year-end close process.
- Developing and maintaining internal controls, including accounting policies and procedures; assessing current accounting operations and recommending improvements.
- Ensuring successful completion of regulatory and tax filings.
- Performing all other duties as required.
Job Requirements
- CPA designation.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- 8+ years of accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role within small or mid-sized business environments.
- Experience in project accounting and manufacturing industries.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and other ERP systems.
- Strong MS Office and Excel skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated and able to multi-task in detail-oriented tasks.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
