Job description

The Coaching Studio is an award-winning leadership development firm dedicated to helping leaders and organizations thrive.

We are long-term partners to ambitious organizations across the globe, from start-ups to world leaders in infrastructure, mining, technology, healthcare, and professional services. What unites our clients is their desire to grow the impact of their people, teams, and culture.

We don't just deliver programs. We cultivate experiences that help leaders pause, see themselves and their systems more clearly, and grow into the leaders their organizations and the world need.

As our business continues to grow, we are investing in the systems, processes, and financial discipline that will help us scale our impact while preserving the culture and agility that make us unique.

Your Role in Our Journey

As our Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring we always have a clear understanding of how our business is performing and what we need to do next.

Strong accounting is the foundation of this role, and it reaches well beyond the books. You will own the financial engine of the business, strengthen our financial operating systems, improve reporting and visibility, and help our leadership team make data-informed and timely decisions with greater confidence.

You will be reporting to the Studio President. You will work closely with our President and VP Operations, who will retain ultimate accountability for business performance while relying on you to manage, improve, and continuously evolve the systems and processes that support it.

What You Will Be Doing

Lead the day-to-day financial operations of the business, including:

  • Month-end close and financial reporting

  • Accounts receivable and collections

  • Accounts payable and vendor management

  • Payroll preparation and review

  • Cash flow forecasting and management

  • Financial controls and compliance

  • Tax filing and compliance

  • Manage closely our external bookkeeper and liaise with our accounting, tax, and audit partners where relevant.

  • Support the leadership team with monthly, quarterly and annual budgeting

Business Performance & Insight

Help leadership understand how the business is performing by:

  • Designing, building and maintaining meaningful financial data dashboards and reporting

  • Developing intuitive visualizations that help leaders move quickly from information to action

  • Tracking utilization and capacity across the business

  • Monitoring project and service line profitability

  • Identifying trends, opportunities, and risks

  • Supporting pricing and margin analysis

  • Translating financial and operational data into actionable insights

Own and continuously improve the systems that support the financial operations of the business, including:

  • Financial reporting and dashboard tools

  • Increasing visibility across projects, contracts, and financial performance

  • Ensuring data integrity across systems

Strategic Partnership

Partner with the leadership team to:

  • Support annual planning and forecasting

  • Model growth scenarios and investment decisions

  • Improve operational visibility and accountability
  • Build scalable infrastructure for future growth

  • Strengthen the financial health of the business

Who You Are

You are an entrepreneurial operator who enjoys building systems, improving processes, and turning data into practical business insight. You are equally comfortable reconciling an account, mapping a workflow, building a dashboard, implementing a new tool, or helping a leader understand the story behind the data. You thrive in growing organizations where people wear multiple hats, where initiative is valued, and where better systems create more space for great work.

You have:

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including full-cycle accounting and financial reporting, with time in a senior or leadership capacity

  • Working knowledge of accounting standards (ASPE), internal controls, and statutory reporting requirements

  • Experience in a professional services environment

  • Strong understanding of project-based and utilization-driven business models

  • Experience managing cash flow, forecasting, and financial reporting

  • Experience working with external accountants, auditors, and advisors

  • Strong systems and technology aptitude

  • Ability to evaluate tools, improve workflows, and turn fragmented information into reliable reporting

  • Advanced reporting capabilities

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial audiences

A CPA (or equivalent) designation is strongly preferred. Bonus points if you also have experience with:

  • Power BI or similar visualization tools

  • Accounting software such as Xero or Quickbooks

  • CRM and business systems integration

  • Scaling a growing professional services business
