Job summary

Treewalk Consulting Inc. is seeking a senior-level controller to own the close, reporting, budgeting, and cash-flow forecasting for a diverse client portfolio.

You will lead month-end closes, deliver reconciled books on schedule, and translate data into actionable guidance for owners and leadership teams. The role emphasizes hands-on finance leadership, scalable processes, and ERP system optimization, with a balanced, remote-friendly work environment and clear boundaries between work and life.

Qualifications

• CPA designation required.
• Significant controllership and/or public accounting experience with private/owner-managed/growth-stage companies.
• Assurance experience at a public accounting firm is an asset.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Own the full-cycle accounting and month-end close for client files with accurate reconciled books.
• Prepare monthly internal management packages and variance reports, translating findings into actionable recommendations.
• Build annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash-flow models.
• Create and maintain dashboards and KPI reporting to spotlight trends and red flags.
• Design and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for scalability.
• Lead ERP implementations, clean-ups, and process improvements to automate manual tasks.
• Oversee payroll, sales tax, and regulatory filings to ensure compliance.
• Prepare year-end working papers and coordinate with external accountants and auditors.

At Treewalk, you’ll be the finance engine behind growing private companies: tight month-end closes, management reporting that actually gets read, forecasts leaders can steer by, and systems and controls built to scale. You’ll own the internal finance function for a portfolio of clients from a broad range of industries. Many engagements will tap you as a hands‑on fractional controller and trusted advisor to owners and leadership teams; others will lean on you to build finance processes from the ground up. Either way, every file is yours to run.

How You’ll Create Impact Day-to-Day

• Own the close – Run full‑cycle accounting and month‑end close for your client files, review the team’s work, and deliver clean, reconciled books on a timeline leaders can count on.
• Keep leadership laser‑focused – Prepare monthly internal management packages and variance reports against budgets and forecasts, translating the findings into clear, action‑ready recommendations.
• Shape the roadmap – Build annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash‑flow models, aligning owners around targets that push the business—without breaking it.
• Turn data into insight – Create and maintain dashboards and KPI reporting that spotlight trends, margins, and red flags before anyone else sees them.
• Build the foundation – Design and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across key cycles so the finance function scales with the business.
• Make systems work harder – Lead ERP implementations, clean‑ups, and process improvements, finding automation opportunities that cut manual effort.
• Keep everything compliant – Oversee payroll, sales tax, and other government and regulatory filings so nothing slips through the cracks.
• Make year‑end painless – Prepare airtight year‑end working papers and support, and quarterback conversations with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors.
