CarbonFree Technology Inc and its affiliates (“CarbonFree”) is a renewable energy development company headquartered in Toronto that has been active in Canada and the Americas for over two decades. We develop, finance, construct, and operate utility‑scale solar and battery storage projects across the Americas. Our team focuses on delivering high‑quality projects that support the transition to a lower‑carbon energy system. We are seeking talented individuals who want to help build and scale the next generation of clean energy infrastructure.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to join the CarbonFree Group. We’re looking for a person who is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and energized by building strong financial foundations in a growing, complex environment. This is a role for someone who goes beyond and thinks critically, anticipates challenges, and takes ownership of outcomes.

You’ll play a key role in overseeing core accounting and office operations, financial controls, and reporting processes that support a rapidly growing business. From scaling financial infrastructure and improving processes to partnering closely with leadership on planning and decision‑making, you’ll have meaningful influence across the organization. This is a place for doers who roll up their sleeves, adapt quickly, and take pride in creating clarity, rigor, and trust through their work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial models
  • Implement and maintain internal controls
  • Manage GST/HST/QST filings and intercompany accruals, invoices, and netting.
  • Provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations to leadership
  • Oversee daily office operations to ensure efficiency and productivity
  • Manage office supplies, equipment, vendors, and service contracts
  • Coordinate facilities management, including maintenance and lease agreements
  • Administer employee onboarding paperwork and HR documentation in collaboration with HR or leadership
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field required
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in small-to-mid‑sized organizations highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment

This role is based in the midtown Toronto office with a requirement of regular in‑office collaboration. The company operates in a growth‑stage, entrepreneurial development environment, offering the opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping the organization for the future.
