Job description

Osseo Automotive is seeking a long-term Controller to succeed our retiring current Controller after nearly 25 years of service. We are looking for a qualified individual to join our team and learn under the current Controller as she transitions out of her role. Candidates should demonstrate excellent teamwork, organization, computer literacy, and the ability to quickly learn new systems. Below is a list of the essential duties for this position.

Automotive Controller - Essential Duties

1. Prepare complete monthly financial statements according to dealership guidelines and manufacturer formats within designated time frames. Ensure all manufacturer accounts, including warranty claims, rebates, interest protection, and co-op advertising, are current and accurate.
2. Interpret financial statements and daily operating controls regularly, informing the dealer of emerging trends.
3. Assist in preparing short- and long-term financial forecasts for the dealership.
4. Provide department managers with detailed financial and management reports.
5. Maintain an effective cash management system, forecast cash flows, and recommend the profitable use of excess cash.
6. Assess depreciation rates for capital assets.
7. Review general ledger and scheduled accounts, investigate any unusual entries.
8. Reconcile general ledger accounts with outside sources, ensuring proper bank, reserve, factory payable, and floor plan payable reconciliations.
9. Stay informed about tax code revisions and advise the dealer on necessary operational adjustments.
10. Ensure compliance with all applicable government finance regulations, including filing and maintaining required forms, payroll taxes, income taxes, and retirement plan records.
11. Manage the dealership computer system to optimize utilization.
12. Administer loss review programs and maintain reserves for contingent liabilities and trade receivables.
13. Meet with the dealer to evaluate insurance renewals.
14. Supervise office personnel to ensure proper accounting procedures, accurate record-keeping, and preparation of information for CPA reviews to minimize audit costs.
15. Continuously improve data integrity and reporting across the dealership.
16. Attend management meetings.
