THE ROLE

A hands-on leadership role overseeing all accounting functions while driving process improvement and automation initiatives.

• Financial Operations (60%)
• Process Optimization & Strategic Support (15%)

THE TASKS

Financial Operations

• Execute the month-end close process with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
• Develop financial reports for the VP of Finance / CFO with KPI tracking and budget variance analysis
• Prepare the monthly consolidated financial package for the VP of Finance, including analysis of actual results versus budget and prior year performance.
• Support multi-entity accounting for operations across US, Canada, and other regions
• Review and approve all significant journal entries and reconciliations
• Manage cash flow management and 13-week cash flow forecasting
• Support audit processes and act as the main liaison with external auditors
• Ensure accuracy of accounting entries related to company transactions

Process Optimization & Strategic Support

• Support the VP of Finance with optimization of NetSuite ERP system to reduce manual processes
• Help with developing integrated financial reporting and standardizing recurring accounting procedures
• Assist the VP of Finance with financial analysis to support executive decision-making

Team Management

• Lead, develop, and mentor a team of 4 accounting professionals
• Establish performance metrics and accountability frameworks
• Create a culture of continuous improvement within the finance function

Compliance & Tax

• Coordinate with external tax advisors for income tax and sales tax filings across multiple jurisdictions
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in all operating regions
• Develop SOPs for ongoing tax compliance activities

THE OPPORTUNITY

Join a dynamic PropTech organization at a pivotal growth stage where you can make a significant impact through operational excellence in accounting and supporting the company's growth. Initially reporting to the CFO, you will transition to working with the VP of Finance later in the year, with potential for advancement as the company continues to scale internationally.

EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE

By Month 1

• Meet with all team members to understand existing processes and workflows
• Identify immediate opportunities for process improvement
• Assist with NetSuite optimization priorities
• Develop understanding of current financial reporting structure

By Month 3

• Document a plan for optimizing accounting processes and reducing manual work
• Begin implementing improvements to tax compliance procedures
• Build relationships with cross-functional teams

By Month 6

• Clean up sales tax compliance processes and documentation
• Develop improved financial reporting for the CFO / VP of Finance
• Create SOPs for key accounting functions and compliance activities
• Support NetSuite optimization initiatives

By Month 12

• Help achieve 15-25% automation of previously manual accounting processes
• Establish efficient month-end close procedures with reduced timeline
• Support any M&A initiatives with proper accounting treatment

THE SKILL SET

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience
• CPA designation or accounting designation equivalent to Canadian CPA
• Experience in People Management
• Exposure to US GAAP is highly preferred
