Job summary

Qualifications

  • CPA certification required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing/construction.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: develop budgets and forecasts with variance analysis.
  • Cost Analysis: monitor costs, identify drivers and optimization opportunities.
  • Financial Compliance: ensure regulatory and internal policy compliance.
  • Internal Controls: establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets.
  • Financial Strategy: support profitability and growth through strategy and analysis.
  • Financial Analysis: evaluate investments, capex, and pricing proposals.
  • Inventory Management: oversee inventory accounting and valuation.
  • Year-end: coordinate with external auditors and provide documentation.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Controller to join EGM Drywall Systems Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta. The Controller will lead the accounting and financial reporting functions while providing financial insight to support operational and strategic decisions.

This hands-on leadership role oversees financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow, job costing, WIP and inventory valuation, internal controls, and year-end readiness. The successful candidate will bring strong financial discipline, understand the financial drivers of a construction business, and provide management with timely analysis to support profitability and overall business performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and monitor budgets and financial forecasts, providing insights into variances and recommending adjustments as needed.
  • Cost Analysis: Monitor manufacturing costs, analyze cost drivers, and identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Financial Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, tax laws, and internal financial policies.
  • Financial Controls: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
  • Financial Strategy: Support developing and implementing financial strategies to drive profitability and growth in operations and closely monitor net profits and variances
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis and provide decision support by evaluating investment proposals, capital expenditure projects, and pricing strategies.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory accounting and valuation, implementing best practices to minimize carrying costs while ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Year-end Financial Statements Support: Coordinate and facilitate year-end financial with external auditors, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis: Perform ad hoc financial analysis and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Working with the Bank and Insurance.
  • Have good knowledge of payroll and be able to work with the service provider.
  • Coordinate with the accounting department and make sure that Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Job Costing and allocation are completed on time.
  • Have a good knowledge of Inventory management and WIP valuation.
  • Proficient with Sage 100
  • Experience in intercompany accounting and reconciliation each month.
  • Cash flow management
  • Can look into the big picture and advise accordingly.
  • Can lead the accounting department and communicate with the departments.
  • Can work with an external accountant and keep the books ready for the year-end.
  • Working knowledge of corporate tax, GST and payroll.
  • Easily approachable and a solution provider, and at the same time can keep financial discipline and lead it as an example.
  • Able to provide monthly reports and analysis to the management on the overall position of the whole group.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • CPA certification required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing/construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial software.
