JNE Consulting in Hamilton, ON is seeking a Control Systems Specialist to develop and configure PLC programs and automation devices, and to lead installation and commissioning within a multi-disciplinary team.

This role offers hybrid work arrangements, a focus on safety and project delivery, and opportunities to work with diverse automation platforms across industrial projects.

Qualifications

• University degree or college diploma in a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and presentation abilities.
• Proficiency in Control Systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, PAC, drives) with intermediate-level programming.
• Knowledge of automation platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, ABB, Honeywell, Aveva).
• Comprehensive understanding of combustion safety systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical theory.
• Proven experience applying control systems and instrumentation in manufacturing or process technology.
• Knowledge of regulatory codes, standards, and specifications.
• Analytical and problem‑solving skills with advanced instrumentation design capabilities.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and configure PLC programs and automation devices (HMI, drives, switches, analyzers) based on design documents and functional descriptions.
• Create control system panel designs using AutoCAD and generate complete drawing packages aligned with approved specifications.
• Lead the installation, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of control systems and instrumentation.
• Specify equipment and design solutions for control systems, instrumentation, and safety systems.
• Develop and enforce specifications and standards in compliance with legislation, industry regulations, and plant requirements.
• Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget and adherence to safety protocols.
• Collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplined environment, managing tasks with minimal supervision.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and present insights to stakeholders and customers.

We are seeking a skilled Control Systems Specialist to join our Automation team working from our Hamilton, ON office. The successful candidate will develop and configure PLC programs and automation devices, design and implement control systems, and lead installation and commissioning efforts. This role demands a hands‑on, solution‑driven individual who thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment, ensuring project success while meeting safety, timeline, and budget requirements.

Job Requirements

• Intimate knowledge of one or more automation platforms, including but not limited to, Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, ABB, Honeywell, Aveva
• Comprehensive understanding of combustion safety systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical theory.
• Proven experience applying control systems and instrumentation in manufacturing or process technology.
• Knowledge of regulatory codes, standards, and specifications.
• Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills with advanced instrumentation design capabilities.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.

Strong Assets

• Hands‑on design and commissioning experience with variable‑speed AC and DC drives.
• Advanced expertise in industrial networking and Operational Technology (OT), including security protocols.
• Proficiency in SQL databases.
• Certification in TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety or equivalent.

Compensation

Base salary: $65,000–$95,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
