Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an engineer to contribute to refurbishment tooling for nuclear electrical systems. You will handle design requirements, BOMs, and technical documentation while aligning with QA and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities include presenting software development updates, coordinating bids, and performing site tool maintenance and validation activities. Ontario eligibility as PE is required.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree required with PE Ontario eligibility or equivalent.
  • Strong Siemens PLC programming and electrical systems knowledge.
  • Experience with design documentation and QA processes.

Job description

Overview

As a new member of the Pickering tooling team, you will be involved with a variety of exciting refurbishment tools, supporting the design and modifications for the electrical systems. This role will require carrying out various duties involved with conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering as well as procurement support associated with control systems equipment.

Your role
  • Prepare technical documents, such as design requirements, change paper markups, design/analysis reports, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform the suitability assessment (and qualifications where needed) of system hardware and pre‑developed software components.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations related to software development and maintenance to clients, as required.
  • Prepare documentation such as work orders, test procedures, reports, operation manuals, and change requests.
  • Perform OPEX Review - Assembling OPEX and assessing what changes should be incorporated in the future designs of Tooling and Equipment.
  • Prepare or assist preparation of scope of work and input to bid proposals.
  • Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work.
  • Become involved in conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other nuclear electrical systems and modifications.
  • Implement and maintain the development environment (hardware and software) required to support project activities, including tool installation, backup and recovery from failure.
  • Assist on preparing validation tests and/or reviewing the results of the validation testing.
  • Responsible for change control - Using configuration management system provided by his/her department to maintain software files, releases and documentation.
  • Responsible for reporting and suggesting resolutions to any potential impacts to technical quality identified by the various tool manufactures and vendors.
  • Implement and maintain project support systems (configuration management, document management, and change control) for the tooling department.
  • Provide site support and perform tool maintenance services.
  • Perform field walk-downs during different design phases and prepare Walkdown reports as required.
About you
  • Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Software Engineering or from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • Possess strong experience in Siemens PLC programming experience - Step 7 TIA Portal, S7-SCL, S7-GRAPH, S7-Starter, SIMATIC NET, WinCC Flexible and S7 Distributed Safety, PROFIBUS and PROFITNET.
  • Knowledge on videos systems, i.e. PELCO experience/Endura is an asset.
  • Proficient in engineering drawings reading and interpretation.
  • Nuclear Quality Assurance program knowledge is an asset.
  • Engineering Change Control program knowledge is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience of electrical power systems is considered an asset.
  • Shall have fundamental technical knowledge to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Shall have excellent communication and technical writing skills and good ability to interact and communicate (both verbal and in writing) professionally with colleagues, clients and contractors.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experiences working safely and within a quality program.
  • Ability and willingness to perform Shift work (days/afternoons/nights).
