Job summary

NorthRiver Midstream is seeking an experienced instrumentation technician to support maintenance across field sites in Northeast British Columbia. You will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshooting of measurement systems and control equipment.

The role requires strong safety focus, knowledge of PLCs/SCADA, and the ability to work independently with on-call responsibilities and travel to sites.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of instrumentation experience in oil & gas, pipelines, or industrial environments.
  • Experience with custody transfer measurement systems and field instrumentation is asset.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation calibration, control systems, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, RTUs, and flow computers.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • CMMS systems (e.g., Maximo) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on field instrumentation at valve sites, pump stations, and meter stations.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation including transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and measurement devices.
  • Maintain custody transfer measurement systems and support meter verification.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, SCADA-connected field devices and perform functional testing.
  • Ensure regulatory and safety standards are met through documentation.
  • Support commissioning, startup, shutdown, and pigging activities.
  • Document deficiencies and initiate corrective actions.
  • Promote safety culture and follow LOTO and related procedures.

What you’ll do:

Here is a sample of what your workday may look like:

Instrumentation & Measurement Maintenance
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on field instrumentation at valve sites, pump stations, and meter stations.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation including transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and measurement devices (e.g., flow, pressure, temperature, and density).
  • Maintain and support custody transfer measurement systems, including meter verification and basic proving activities.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, and SCADA-connected field devices.
  • Conduct routine inspections and functional testing of instrumentation and control systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Pipeline Operations Support
  • Support commissioning, startup, shutdown, and pigging activities as required.
  • Perform site checks and assist operations by ensuring instrumentation is functioning correctly and providing accurate data.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving operational upsets related to instrumentation or control system issues.
Inspection, Troubleshooting & Integrity
  • Conduct routine inspections and support maintenance program requirements, documenting deficiencies and initiating corrective actions.
  • Diagnose instrument and control system failures using systematic troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Support integrity activities through instrumentation verification and field validation.
Regulatory & Compliance
  • Ensure instrumentation and measurement systems meet applicable regulatory and company standards (e.g., CER, CSA Z662).
  • Maintain accurate calibration and maintenance records to support compliance and audit requirements.
  • Support inspections, audits, and regulatory activities as required.
Safety & Documentation
  • Promote a strong safety culture and adhere to all safety procedures, including LOTO and confined space entry.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, calibration records, and maintenance documentation within the CMMS (e.g., Maximo).
  • Identify and report equipment issues, safety concerns, and opportunities for improvement.

What you bring:

Required

  • Valid safety certifications (e.g., H2S Alive, First Aid, WHMIS, TDG, Confined Space, LOTO).
  • Familiarity with pipeline regulations and standards (CER, CSA Z662).
  • 5+ years of instrumentation experience in oil & gas, pipelines, or industrial environments.
  • Experience with custody transfer measurement systems and field instrumentation is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation calibration, control systems, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, RTUs, and flow computers.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with CMMS systems (e.g., Maximo) preferred.

Additional Information

  • This position includes on-call and emergency response responsibilities.
  • Extensive travel and out-of-town work may be required.

Salary Range:

$155,000 - $185,000. Final compensation for this position will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate and will be aligned to internal equity.
