Youth Worker

Location: Madison Site, Downtown, Toronto

Contract: 1 Year

Level: 6

Schedule: Monday to Friday (8am to 4pm and 3pm to 11pm)

Purpose of Position

The candidate will be responsible for the direct implementation of Covenant House’s philosophy, mission statement, and policies as they pertain to residential care.

Responsibilities
  • Ongoing assessment of youths' needs; providing individual counseling.
  • Crisis intervention in situations of physical confrontation, medical and psychiatric emergencies, and trauma.
  • Acting as an advocate for youth within the agency and with external agencies.
  • Maintaining client files, including intakes, discharges, case summaries, and relevant documentation.
  • Providing support to Case Managers.
Qualifications
  • College or university degree or diploma in child and youth work or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years' experience in a shelter or residential setting.
  • Knowledge of adolescent developmental theory and issues related to street youth.
  • First Aid, CPR certification, and basic computer skills are assets.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and intervene with youth in crisis.
  • Trauma-informed approach to work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
