Job summary

Western Forest Products Inc. in Woss, BC, is seeking a Contract Services Manager to lead road construction, harvest and log sorting operations, ensuring production targets and profitability.

You will manage contractors, coordinate with Operations, and drive safety and efficiency across the Englewood Forest Operation. The ideal candidate has timberlands experience, strong leadership and a track record supervising contracts; FPBC registration is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of timberlands logging operations and planning.
  • 10+ years of experience in Timberlands.
  • Proven track record of contract supervision.
  • Experience with road construction and dryland sorting is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Government Regulations related to Timberlands and Contract Services.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, ensure safe work performance and achievement of departmental goals.
  • Supervise Contractor hourly operations personnel and ensure compliance with safety and policy.
  • Maintain open communication between operations personnel and Contractor/Company representatives.
  • Support harvesting plans development and execution.
  • Drive safety, quality and productivity improvements with contractors.

Salary Range: $120,000.00 To $140,000.00 Annually

THE OPPORTUNITY


Western Forest Products is hiring for a Contract Services Manger to join our Englewood Forest Operation team based in Woss, BC.


What You’ll Do: You will be responsible for delivering overall production targets through the efficient management of the road construction and maintenance, harvest, and log sorting processes. Working closely with the Manager, Operations, you will play an integral part of all contract road construction and stump to dump contractors in the operation. The Contract Services Manager is also responsible for ensuring operational efficiencies and profitability of the operation.


Who You Are: Our ideal candidate is someone with extensive knowledge and experience in Timberlands logging operations and planning with a proven track record of successful contract supervision. We are looking for a self-motivated leader with a strong sense of initiative and ability to motivate teams and manage performance of Contractors. You are someone who doesn’t cut corners; you hold both yourself and others accountable and have a high standard for transparency around processes.

  • Salary range of $120,000 - $140,000 based on skill level, qualifications, and experience

Work Environment:This role is to be performed in person at our Englewood Forest Operation in Woss, BC.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Leadership



  • Responsible for planning, safe work performance and the achievement of departmental and operational goals;

  • Ensure the safe and effective management and supervision of Contractor hourly operations personnel; and

  • Through worker training and coaching, ensure contractor employee awareness and compliance with safety, environmental and operational policy, procedures and regulations.


Operational Management



  • Monitor and assess contractor employee performance and as necessary correct and/or enforce compliance with safety, environmental and workplace rules, regulations and operational requirements;

  • Ensure production schedules are met, and product quality meets established standards within budgetary requirements;

  • Deal with employee/labour relations matters as they occur and seek advice on same as deemed necessary;

  • Ensure open lines of communication between operations personnel and between Contractor and Company representatives;

  • Assist in the development and execution of harvesting plans;

  • Work with Contractor and Company personnel to effect positive change with respect to operational safety, quality and productivity;

  • Stay abreast of industry innovations and in general work towards the development of expert harvesting knowledge;

  • As a representative of the Company, carry out the job duties with the utmost professionalism and integrity; and

  • Other duties as required and assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience



  • In-depth knowledge of logging;

  • 10+ years’ experience in Timberlands;

  • Proven track record of contract supervision;

  • Registered with the FPBC would be considered an asset;

  • Experience in road construction; and

  • Experience in dryland sorting is considered an asset.


Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies



  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products;

  • In-depth knowledge of Government Regulations as they relate to Timberlands and Contract Services;

  • Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety programs and regulations;

  • Knowledge of Labour Relations regulations;

  • Ability to multitask;

  • Strong leadership abilities;

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain credibility;

  • Ability to adopt and encourage innovative and strategic thinking; and

  • Excellent problem-solving skills to find solutions to complex problems.
