Job summary

Olds College of Agriculture & Technology is seeking Heavy Equipment Operator Field Instructors to join a roster for contract opportunities to teach the HEO 15-week program and other contract trainings. Instructors will be contracted as opportunities arise and must be local to Ponoka/Lacombe/Wetaskiwin areas.

Responsibilities include delivering the 15-week HEO course, updating curricula, developing lesson plans, coordinating on-site training, and maintaining equipment and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of directly related Heavy Equipment Operator experience.
  • Extensive experience operating and maintaining a wide variety of heavy equipment (loaders, graders, dozers, excavators, skid-steers).
  • Commitment to safety and healthy work environment.

  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment repairs.
  • Maintain repair and maintenance records and coordinate maintenance.
  • Provide regular feedback and reports to the Lead Instructor and Trades' Programming Coordinator.
  • Attend meetings as requested.

The Opportunity: Contract Field Instructors, Heavy Equipment Operator

The Industry Training & Continuing Education team is seeking Heavy Equipment Operator Field Instructors to add to our roster for a growing number of contract opportunities to instruct in the Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) 15-week program and other contract training. The anticipated terms of employment for these contract opportunities will vary, and instructors will be contracted as opportunities arise.


Ideal Candidate local to Ponoka/ Lacombe/ Wetaskiwin area

Key Job Functions:


  • Delivery of the HEO course over a 15-week period and/or short industry training sessions

  • Maintain and update curriculum as required

  • Work with Program Manager to assist with the development of lesson plans and scheduling of daily training

  • Set up and coordinate on-site training locations, including provisions for facilities, equipment, and supplies

  • Assist Program Manager to develop quizzes, assignments, and field evaluations as required

  • Ensure on-site operations comply with Occupational Health and Safety Standards as well as all regulations pertaining to the heavy equipment industry

  • Ensure complete and up-to-date records of student performance and course attendance

  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment repairs

  • Maintain repair and maintenance records, and coordinate regular equipment maintenance

  • Provide regular feedback, and reports as requested, to the Lead Instructor and Trades' Programming Coordinator

  • Attend meetings as requested


Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Required:


  • A minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience in the Heavy Equipment Operator trade is required

  • The successful candidate will have extensive experience operating and maintaining a wide variety of heavy equipment (loaders, graders, dozers, excavators, and skid-steers)

  • Actively promote and reinforce practices that prioritize the well-being and security of all individuals at Olds College and show a proactive attitude towards safety measures, continuously striving to enhance safety protocols and instill a culture of shared responsibility and accountability when it comes to maintaining a safe and secure work setting.

  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills and organizational abilities are vital

  • Demonstrate a strong dedication to promoting inclusivity and diversity by actively seeking out and valuing diverse perspectives, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals of all backgrounds, and continuously striving to create a culture of respect and understanding

  • Solid computer skills are required, (Google Applications experience is an asset)

  • Successful candidates will possess the ability to work both independently and within a team environment
