Job description

Contract Faculty - Health Care Assistant (HCA)

Hourly: $52.41-$114.65; Per Three Credit Course: $7,947. Actual salary or hourly rate will depend on credits and appointment duration per the Collective Agreement.

The Mental Health and Personal Support Work Department in the Faculty of Health Sciences invites applications for contract faculty to teach in the Health Care Assisting (HCA) Program.

You will instruct students, facilitate learning, evaluate progress, and manage learning activities and resources, providing academic advice to ensure quality, learner-centered instruction.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students, facilitate learning, evaluate progress, plan and organize learning activities, and provide academic guidance.

Qualifications:

  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives; undergraduate degree in Nursing or a health-related field, Master’s preferred.
  • Ability to teach adult learners (e.g., Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent, or prior teaching experience).
  • Recent teaching experience in clinical, classroom, or lab settings in a health care or nursing program.
  • At least three years of full-time Canadian nursing experience, including working with older adults with complex needs and/or in home support and multi-level care.
  • Completion of coursework in Indigenous cultural safety and humility.
  • Completion of the BC Health Care Assistant Practice course.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, initiative, creativity, self-direction, strong work ethic, and excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and provide strong references.

Additional information: Teaching occurs at the Coquitlam Campus and clinical courses within the Lower Mainland.
