Job summary

VON Canada is seeking a dedicated Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) to provide person-centred home care across Richmond County. You will support daily living, assist with personal care, mobility, and meal prep while traveling between clients’ homes throughout the day.

The role involves an evening & weekend rotation, full-time hours, and benefits. RPL funding is available through the NS Department of Health and Wellness program.

Qualifications

  • CCA certification or eligible for RPL program in NS
  • Must have current Standard First Aid or CPR level C
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle and proof of insurance
  • Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must wear PPE

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to clients in their homes
  • Assist with personal care: bathing, grooming, dressing
  • Support mobility and transfers for safety and comfort
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals; light housekeeping
  • Offer respite care to families
  • Monitor and maintain a safe home environment
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned

About the role:

As a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA), you'll use your training to provide person-centred care, support daily living, and help clients stay comfortable and independent in their own homes. You'll travel between clients' homes throughout the day, making every visit matter. Bring your skills to where they're needed most!

What you'll do:

What we are looking for:


  • Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) certification

  • PSW, HSW, or similar certifications from another province, relevant certification or work experience, or internationally educated nurses, may be considered if they are currently enrolled in or eligible to enroll in the Nova Scotia CCA Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) Program

  • Must have a current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate

  • Must enjoy driving, have a personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance

  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry Check required

  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Funding for CCA Programs at community colleges

Funding is also available for the Continuing Care Assistant Program at community colleges across Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia Government covers tuition and most program costs for eligible applicants. Please contact your local college for more details.


Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
