Job summary

McAsphalt is seeking a Process Engineer to design, optimize, and support process systems across our facilities in Canada. The role requires senior-level expertise for leadership, project oversight, and mentorship, reporting to Engineering Manager. Candidates should bring strong experience in process engineering within heavy industrial environments.

The position offers an annual salary in the CAD 110k–140k range, with a competitive bonus program and robust benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
• P.Eng. with PEO or eligible for registration; 7+ years of process/project engineering experience.
• Senior Process Engineer designation possible for strong leadership and project oversight.

Responsibilities

• Perform process design, heat and material balances, and equipment sizing.
• Develop and update PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, and control narratives.
• Lead or support FEED, detailed engineering, debottlenecking, and process optimization.
• Support HAZID, HAZOP, process safety reviews and compliance.
• Analyze operational data and troubleshoot process issues.
• Define project scopes, budgets, schedules and resource requirements.
• Coordinate contractors, suppliers and construction activities.
• Provide plant support, commissioning and startup assistance.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, design basis memoranda, and project deliverables.
• Support knowledge sharing and mentor junior engineers.
• Travel to facilities to support capital projects and improvement initiatives.

Job Summary

The Process Engineer will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and supporting process and operational systems across McAsphalt. This role will provide engineering analysis, project execution support, operational excellence initiatives, and plant support activities to help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. The level of responsibility will be aligned with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, with candidates demonstrating senior-level expertise expected to provide greater technical leadership, project oversight, mentorship, and support for more complex engineering initiatives. Reporting To: Engineering Manager

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform process design, heat and material balances, and equipment sizing.
• Develop and update PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, and control narratives.
• Lead or support FEED, detailed engineering, debottlenecking, and process optimization initiatives, depending on project scope and level of experience.
• Support HAZID, HAZOP, process safety reviews, and compliance requirements.
• Analyze operational data and troubleshoot process issues.
• Define project scopes, budgets, schedules and resource requirements.
• Coordinate contractors, suppliers and construction activities.
• Provide plant support, commissioning and startup assistance.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, design basis memoranda, and project deliverables.
• Support knowledge sharing across the engineering team and, where applicable, mentor junior engineers or technical team members.
• Travel to company facilities as required to support capital projects, plant operations, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
• P.Eng. with PEO or eligible for registration; relevant experience (7 minimum) in process engineering, project engineering, and/or project management within a process, manufacturing, petroleum, heavy industrial, or related environment.
• Candidates with stronger senior-level experience, technical leadership capability, and demonstrated project oversight experience may be considered for a Senior Process Engineer designation.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, internal equity, and the level at which the successful candidate is hired.
